Tanghalang Pilipino will welcome its audience with its latest collection of plays for its 38th theater season, which will center on the theme of “Revolt” while highlighting the core mission of the company: love.

Balete

Balete was adapted by Rody Vera from National Artist for Literature F. Sionil Jose’s book titled “Tree.”

It follows the story of a boy surrounded by people from different social classes. This distinction shapes the identities and destinities of those around him. As he traverses his journey of self-discovery, he finds himself entangled in power structures that dictate the lives of the people around him.

Balete will run from September 13 to October 6, 2024 at Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez.

Sandosenang Sapatos

Sandosenang Sapatos puts the limelight on people with special needs and underscores the power of familial love.

The story centers on a daughter who wishes to fulfill her father’s dream of having his daughter become a ballerina. Unfortunately, she was born without feet. Every year on her birthday, she enters an enchanting world of shoes where a Shoe Fairy gives her a pair of feet, enabling her to fulfill her father’s dream.

Yet when she leaves the realm, she faces her father’s disappointment as she always returns to her natural state. An unexpected tragedy will make her understand her father’s deep love for her.

Sandosenang Sapatos is based on a short story written by Dr. Luis Gatmaitan. The show will run from November 15 to December 8, 2024.

Kisapmata

Kisapmata is adapted from Mike De Leon’s acclaimed film, based on the crime reportage of Nick Joaquin titled “The House on Zapote Street.” A psychological thriller and family drama, Kisapmata questions the image of a “perfect” Filipino family.

It narrates the story of a patriarchal family led by Dadong Carandang, a retired police sergeant, who controls his wife and daughter, Dely and Mila. There is an upheaval in the household when Mila asks her father for permission to marry her boyfriend and admits she is pregnant.

Kisapmata will run from March 7 to 30, 2025.

With these shows lined up for their upcoming theater season, Tanghalang Pilipino stays true to its commitment of telling meaningful Filipino stories, fostering social responsibility, and developing a culture of excellence in Philippine theater.
