The Philippine theater industry continues to thrive, with a diverse array of productions from homegrown masterpieces to acclaimed international works, gracing the stage each year and offering audiences unforgettable experiences.

This September marks the unveiling of a new venue dedicated to showcasing compelling stories: the Proscenium Theater. Located along Estrella Street in Rockwell Center, Makati, this state-of-the-art space promises to further enrich the city’s vibrant cultural landscape.

The Grand Dual Launch

On September 26, a double debut took place at Rockwell as the Proscenium Theater opened with the Manila premiere of ‘The Bodyguard: The Musical,’ staged by 9Works Theatrical. The show, inspired by the hit 1992 film of the same title, has fascinated audiences in the West End and now, Metro Manila.

It offered theatergoers a compelling story, striking music and choreography, and a powerful lineup of Whitney Houston hits, including “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” “I Have Nothing,” “Run to You,” and the iconic belting song “I Will Always Love You,” earning praises for its stellar production.

And it’s just about to get better. Following the successful launch of both the theater and ‘The Bodyguard’ in Manila, which runs until October 19, 2025, Rockwell will house two more major productions in the coming months, reaffirming its mission to be a venue for world-class cultural performances.

Spotlighting Filipino Talents

This November, the Proscenium Theater will bring Filipino excellence to the stage as it proudly presents its first-ever concert, the ‘MaestroClass Concert Series,’ led by National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab.

Cayabyab, a powerhouse in the Philippine music, remains a source of inspiration to today’s songwriters and composers. He has been a familiar presence in Rockwell’s journey. Throughout the years, he has performed at Rockwell’s events, and now, he will grace the new stage.

Running from the 14th to the 15th of November, the concert promises to deliver a remarkable performance by Cayabyab, joined by special guests and elevated by the theater’s exceptional acoustics and Steinway pianos.

Rockwell’s Holiday Tradition

Meanwhile in December, beyond its yearly tradition of welcoming the Christmas season with tree lightings, dazzling displays, and festive decorations, Rockwell brings the sparkle to the stage. Adding to the eminent lineup of shows is the hit musical ‘A Christmas Carol,’ presented by Proscenium Theater and 9Works Theatrical.

The Broadway adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic will be directed by Robbie Guevara, featuring music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and book by Mike Ockrent and Lynn Ahrens. Running from November to December, the production will offer people a memorable way to embrace and enjoy the holiday season.

The ‘A Christmas Carol’ production will mark the Proscenium Theater's third grand show, wrapping up a performance-studded year, the Rockwell way—filled with Christmas cheer.

Stay updated and keep your eyes open, there’s so much more waiting behind Rockwell’s curtains.
