In a culturally-significant set, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB), through its School of Arts, Culture and Performance (SACP) presents a reimagined version of Sophocles’ original ancient tragedy ‘Oedipus Rex’.
Placed in the Philippine setting, this play tackles flood control failures, questionable public infrastructure, and political dynasties that are currently plagueing millions of Filipinos.
Titled ‘REX’, this Benildean theatrical staging is an ode to their commitment in making community-driven and socially relevant pieces.
The teaser mentioned that the story will follow the Po family and their company, St. Paul the Apostle Constructions, as it undergoes what seems to be a “collective tragedy” brought forth by the accumulated issues from within.
Headstarted by Eula Valdes and Martin Del Rosario, the ensemble was formed from the students of the BA Theater Arts program along with professional actors Bong Cabrera, Sheryll Ceasico, Emilio Macabantad, and EJ Jallorina.
This project serves as the reunion on set of Eula and Martin after their wins at the Gawad Urian 12 years ago for their stellar acting performance in the critically acclaimed independent film ‘Dagitab’ (2014).
The whole team, from the creatives to the production is composed by Benilde faculty and alumni, and a dedicated Benildean leadership team.
‘REX’ is scheduled to run from November 12 to 22, 2026 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater in Circuit Makati. Tickets are available via Ticket2Me.net in three tiers: Trono ni Rex (VIP Center Elevated Bleachers), Tanaw ng Tebes (Front Floor Level), and Sa Gilid ng Lihim (Side Seating).
