Ube and matcha have their own loyal fans, but what happens when the two flavors share the same menu? Salu Salo Market’s Ube-Matcha Meetup brings the flavors together through a lineup of local brands offering drinks, desserts, and other creations worth checking out.
Running from October 14 to 17 at SMDC Light Mall, the meetup gathers 16 local brands offering drinks, pastries, and other products inspired by ube and matcha. The event gives visitors a chance to explore different offerings in one place, whether they prefer the earthy taste of matcha, the sweetness of ube, or the combination of both.
For the organizers, the idea came from bringing together two flavors that people already enjoy. With matcha gaining popularity and ube remains close to Filipino food culture, the pairing offers a way to celebrate familiar tastes while exploring something different.
Rather than focusing on the flavors individually, the meetup highlights what happens when they come together. Ube brings a distinct sweetness to drinks and desserts, while matcha offers an earthy contrast. This combination gives participating brands room to experiment with their products and introduce customers to new ways of enjoying both.
Aside from the food, the event also creates space for local businesses to connect with potential customers. The organizers said they consider product quality and creativity when selecting participating brands, while also making room for new businesses to showcase their offerings.
For these entrepreneurs, joining a market provides an opportunity to introduce their products to people who may not have encountered their brands before. The organizers hope that visitors will continue supporting these businesses even after the event ends.
“If someone discovers a small business here and becomes a loyal customer even after the event, then we’ve already achieved something meaningful,” the organizers shared.
The Ube-Matcha Meetup reflects how food trends can bring different flavors and local businesses together. By placing two popular ingredients in one space, Salu Salo Market gives visitors a chance to discover new combinations while supporting the entrepreneurs behind them.
For ube and matcha fans, the meetup offers a reason to step beyond their usual orders and find a new favorite along the way.
Salu Salo Market’s Ube-Matcha Meetup runs until October 17 at SMDC Light Mall.
