One Saturday evening I was invited to The Terróir Table. After parking at the Allegro Center at Chino Roces Ave in Makati, I initially thought I was at the wrong venue. The entire establishment was a quiet lifestyle center. I forgot that business centers in Makati completely transform into inactive spots during weekends when offices are closed.

After walking further, I discovered the Terróir Wines store tucked discreetly inside. Not knowing what I was getting myself into and simply saying yes to my friend’s invitation, I found out that The Terroir Table is a series of curated experiences by Terroir Wines. Each event is designed to make wine more approachable and enjoyable. The platform lets guests discover different wines through thoughtfully executed casual social gatherings, guided tasting and food pairing events, or intimate wine dinners.

For the dinner I savored, the team collaborated with a culinary partner who thought of the full course menu. Sommelier par excellence Ian Santos handpicked the wines while Chef Aaron Ramirez of MŌDAN presented a delectable selection of Asian dishes inspired by cuisines from different countries.

The dinner was a preview of how the team works closely with clients to understand the purpose and theme of the event, then recommending a food concept and wine pairing to complete a memorable experience. Being more technical, some wine aficionados prefer specific wine regions or terroirs, while others explore different countries, producers, or grape varieties. This allows each Terroir Table experience to offer something new, giving guests the opportunity to discover wines they may not have encountered before.

As a wine lover, I was curious to know what their team believes are the ongoing trends. According to them, the Manila wine scene has become more adventurous in recent years. More consumers are moving beyond familiar labels and are becoming interested in wines with a sense of place and story.

Some of the favorites have become crisp whites and textured wines that pair well with seafood and Asian flavors, with growing interest in varieties beyond the usual Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Grower champagnes and artisanal sparkling wines are also getting their due attention as more wine drinkers seek quality and authenticity. Appreciation for wine experiences have also grown with consumers looking for tastings and food pairings, as well as educational events that deepen their understanding of wine.

At the end of the night, convinced with how thoughtful the experience was for me, I ended up buying a bottle of riesling and champagne that I’ll enjoy quietly while I write my next articles.
