There’s Always a Silver Lining
Silver Lining – Redux is slated for November at the Carlos P. Romulo Theater.
Rockitwell Studios and MusicArtes, Inc. will have a redux of its original Filipino musical Silver Lining this November 2024. Silver Lining garnered an impressive 5 ALIW Awards nominations for its initial run last year, including Best Musical, Best Direction, Best Musical Screenplay, Best Composer and Best Actor.
Silver Lining Redux follows three friends as they go through their fun-filled high school days—from soirees, bakuran moments and class parties, to intercollegiate and fraternity conflicts, to their lives after university, raising their own families and the second generation.
Aside from an interesting retro look at the Baby Boomers and Flower Pow- er era of the 60s and the 70s, this new edition of the musical evolves against the backdrop of today’s issues such as the West Philippine Sea, Millenial and Gen Z social issues, and other shared pressing concerns. Through all these challenges, a positive and happy resolution is promised at the end.
The main cast features multi-awarded, veteran actor-director Ricky Davao; HBO Asia, Paramount+, and UK actor Jake Macapagal; Raul Montesa (original cast of Miss Saigon Germany); international stage/film actress and recording artist Gina Respall; Star Magic’s Krystal Brimner; and ABS-CBN recording artist Drei Sugay, as well as other up-and-coming theater stars.
The creative team includes PETA Artistic Director Maribel Legarda of One More Chance and Rak of Aegis fame, Jack Teotico (music and lyrics), Palanca Awardee Joshua Lim So (book and additional lyrics), award-winning author Liza Magtoto, Walang Aray musical director and composer Vince Lim (musical direction, arrangement, and additional music), and PJ Rebullida (choreography).
Showbizportal.net found Silver Lining to be “an inspiring and optimistic story about friendship and adulthood.” News2. abs-cbn.com sees Silver Lining as “a reflection on the past and a glimpse into the challenges of today’s generation” while Julianna Cabilli of Tatler praised its “rousing musical numbers and stellar performances.” Butch Dalisay of Philstar writes: “Silver Lining is for our generation—and our children who may want to understand what their folks went through and why they think the way they do.”
The clamor for Silver Lining Redux is growing, with the musical getting endorsements from the College of the Holy Spirit Alumni Foundation, the La Salle Green Hills Alumni Association, and the UP School of Economics Alumni Association, among others. It will run for 8 shows from November 8-10 and 15-17 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium of RCBC Plaza in Makati City.
