Nestled quietly at 59 Aguirre Avenue in BF Homes, Parañaque, is an unassuming and discreet seafood spot that surprisingly offers a world of flavors. A far cry from being fictional - unlike the tropical island in the hit song by The Beach Boys - Kokomo Tavern serves truly scrumptious dishes of different influences, all still with seafood at its core. From local, eastern, to western favorites, the restaurant’s selection transcends traditional to modern styles all while creating its signature take on well-loved dishes.

Start the meal with a hearty bowl of soup. The Lobster Soup offers creamy lobster bisque with real chunks of lobster meat. A comforting option, the Clam Chowder’s traditional New England style is served with equal portions of clams and potatoes.

Missing Japan? Kokomo offers its own take on Japanese staples. The Spicy Salmon Roll is a spinoff on shake or salmon sashimi, with mild spicy dynamite sauce drizzled on fresh salmon slices rolled in sticky and tender sushi rice. A heavier option, the Dragon Roll infuses savory shrimp, tempura, and crab stick with refreshing and sweet cucumber and mango. Each slice is topped with spicy mayo and kabayaki sauce that adds a richer sweet and savory depth of flavor with each bite. For a lighter option, the simple yet flavorfully light and crisp Kani Salad offers an assortment of greens tossed in mayo together with mango, crab sticks, and cucumber.

Other Asian inspired dishes focus on a favorite local ingredient: crab. Some of the restaurant’s top dishes like the restaurant’s Korean influenced Gejang, served in actual crab shell, marinates crab meat in soy sauce to achieve a briny and delectable taste. With a dash of lemon juice, the sweet and delicate texture of the crab is enhanced with citrus notes. Like Bangkok’s street food stalls, Kokomo’s version of the Thai Crab Fried Rice is aromatic and fresh, served with minced crab claw meat on top.

Local delicacies take centerstage with the fresh oyster options. Aklan Oysters have a more savory and saline taste that’s reminiscent of the ocean. Tayabas Depurated Oysters, on the other hand, undergo a purification process to filter the oysters of bacteria and other contaminants. Profile wise, it has a clean and sweet taste with a plumper size.

Going west, a seafood restaurant is not complete without the classic Fish and Chips. Fried tender Alaskan pollock, coated in light and crunchy batter, is served with crispy fries and the signature tartar sauce. Maine Lobster Roll uses authentic New England lobster meat spread on top of a warm butter bun.

The pièce de résistance, an interesting blend of east and west, the Uni Pasta is a unique delight. The dish uses signature squid ink to coat the spaghetti, served with creamy katsuobushi cream sauce to create an intense umami flavor with every slurp. The icing on the cake, generous slices of buttery uni that add more savory taste to the already appetizing dish.

Enhancing appreciation of the diverse produce of the sea, Kokomo Tavern showcases how different influences come together harmoniously, changing how diners see food through better seafood dishes.
