Taipei Dangdai Art & Ideas Announces Return for its Fourth Edition
Taipei Dangdai Art & Ideas returns to showcase the excellence of the Taiwanese Art scene for its fourth edition this coming May 12–14.

Presented by UBS, Taipei Dangdai Art & Ideas will take place from 12-14 May, 2023, at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center (VIP Preview and Vernissage Thursday 11 May). Following a compelling edition in 2022, the fourth edition of the fair will continue to place a strong emphasis on the region, as well as showcasing some of the world’s best galleries from Europe and the USA. The strength of the Taiwanese art market has continued to thrive through the pandemic, and Taipei Dangdai will continue to present a vital opportunity for collectors and visitors to engage with the rich Taiwanese and wider Asian art scene through exceptional quality artworks, installations and programming.

Fair highlights
Taipei Dangdai will feature a world-class line-up of galleries from around the globe. As an important nexus for contemporary art in East Asia, the fair will present leading international galleries alongside a dynamic showcase of some of the most prominent galleries from Taipei and across the region. In addition to the Galleries sector, Taipei Dangdai includes special sectors: Edge, where visitors can find the cutting edge of emerging art; and Engage, a new sector of thoughtfully curated shows with a historical bent.
With over 70 of the participating galleries having a space in the Asia Pacific region, Taipei Dangdai continues its mission to present a survey of Asia’s diverse and rich contemporary art scene, whilst showcasing global talent in Taipei. The fair is also delighted to welcome 30 first-time participants.

Galleries provides a significant platform for established galleries from Taiwan, Asia and around the world. The 2023 Galleries sector welcomes a number of galleries joining the fair for the first time, including KÖNIG GALERIE, P21, Nino Mier Gallery, ShanghART, Ben Brown Fine Arts, and Kwai Fung Hin Gallery, alongside leading international galleries such as David Zwirner, Gagosian, Lehmann Maupin, and GALLERIA CONTINUA.
Introducing a new sector for 2023 in recognition of Taipei’s extraordinary cross-disciplinary collections, Engage offers a unique opportunity to focus on solo or duo presentations by historically significant artists or thematic presentations. The sector features 7 galleries including HdM GALLERY, Lucie Chang Fine Arts, Nunu Fine Art, rin art association, Rossi & Rossi, VETA by Fer Francés and Yi Yun Art.
The Edge sector provides an opportunity to discover cutting edge emerging art, where galleries can showcase a singular new body of work by a single young or otherwise emerging artist. This year’s 20 participants include young painter Un Cheng with Blindspot Gallery, Italian artist Alessandro Teoldi at first-time participant Capsule Shanghai, Japanese sculptor Takashi Hinoda at imura art gallery, Jordi Ribes at L21 Gallery who blurs the lines between digital and pictorial expression, and the immersive environments of Himali Singh Soin at newcomer Solid Art.
Public Program highlights
Taipei Dangdai will once again present Node, a series of public art landmarks in a curated exhibition of large-scale and immersive installation works that go beyond the traditional art fair booth. Highlights include an installation by Fenko Catalysis Chamber titled "Flawness", an architectural exploration of paper as a cultural material. In collaborating with Fenko, Node inaugurates a series that triangulates between artisanal craft, modern design, and contemporary art, framing techniques and material heritages in an updated way to make them accessible and exciting for the youngest generations of visitors and creatives.
In addition, the 2023 Ideas Forum convenes an exceptional group of prominent curators and researchers under the theme of ‘The Extraterritorial’ to discuss region, place, and cultural belonging. The Forum will take the format of a curatorial summit that both draws on Taiwan's unique cultural context at the intersection of multiple east Asian historical pathways and builds unexpected bridges through diasporic networks spanning the globe. Curators and researchers at pivotal stages in their careers are invited to share directions from their work with peers embedded in Taiwan's local context, and to visit artist studios and institutions across Taiwan to further their own research. Selected participants include: Martin Germann (Mori Art Museum), Sun A Moon (Space AfroAsia), Xue Tan (Tai Kwun Contemporary), Wong Binghao (MoMA), and X Zhu-Nowell (Rockbund Art Museum).

Young Patron Assembly
Taipei Dangdai is a leading art fair for both established and emerging collectors, founded on the strength of the local Taiwanese art market. For 2023, the fair will host for the first time the Young Patron Assembly, an international platform connecting a new generation of young patrons and collectors around the region, presenting opportunities for engagement, development, and sharing among like-minded individuals. First launched during ART SG in 2023 with an artist talk by emerging Singaporean painter Alvin Ong, Young Patron Assembly will act as a hub bringing together its casual network alongside the international art fairs under the umbrella of The Art Assembly, with a focus this year on Taiwan, Japan, and Singapore.

Taipei Dangdai is a world-class art event, providing exhibitors the opportunity to broaden their collector base and giving international exposure to a growing number of artists and galleries from across Asia. The name of the fair captures this spirit, as dangdai in Mandarin means “the present moment.” Held annually, Taipei Dangdai constitutes an accurate and immediate survey of what is occurring in the contemporary Asian art world. The subtitle, Art & Ideas, highlights the two main focuses of the event: a leading international art fair and a convening of thought leaders from various fields.
