Montblanc Marks 100 years of Meisterstück
Montblanc celebrates the milestone anniversary of its iconic writing instrument with a new campaign written and directed by Wes Anderson.
August 2, 2024
With its black cigar-shaped design, three gold rings, and handcrafted gold nib, the Meisterstück has become synonymous with Montblanc as the Maison’s most recognizable product. To mark a century since this global symbol of writing culture was first introduced in 1924, Montblanc has partnered with acclaimed director and screenwriter Wes Anderson to create a campaign that takes viewers on a journey to the extraordinary world of Montblanc.
Featuring actors Rupert Friend, Jason Schwartzman, and Wes Anderson himself, the story follows three colorful characters at the fictional Montblanc headquarters atop the Mont Blanc mountain as they introduce the Maison, its story and most well-known creation in Anderson’s signature style, with its distinctive visual aesthetic and blend of eccentric, unconventional storytelling.
Sat at a desk in the Writing Room, the characters put pen to paper, reminding viewers of the joy and value of handwriting. During their lively conversation, the characters playfully call out the brand’s various campaigns and taglines, closing with an invitation to rediscover the experience of writing by hand: Let’s Write.
Aside from the Meisterstück, watches and leather goods also appear in the film, an insight into the multi-category nature of Montblanc.
The Origin Collection
Debuting in 1924, the all-black fountain pen Meisterstück is named for its “masterpiece” status as a work of absolute craftsmanship. Through a century of continuous use and popularity, the Meisterstück has been perfected to become recognized as a writing icon. To celebrate this milestone anniversary, Montblanc has created the Meisterstück The Origin Collection, highlighting its design attributes through the years and even revisiting original concepts from the extensive Montblanc archive that were never brought to life.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Meisterstück, each edition is decorated with a special design nib showing the number “100” as well as the years “1924” and “2024.” A specially designed cap ring is also decorated with both the milestone years. Inspired by the different marble effects in the early Meisterstück writing instruments, the precious resin of the cap displays an effect reminiscent of dissolving ink. To honor the original sources that inspired the design of the Meisterstück The Origin Collection, each emblem is surrounded by the respective color of that edition.
