All-in on Sustainability

Flying Tiger Copenhagen takes the path toward a greener future.

August 5, 2024

Since 1986, Flying Tiger Copenhagen has delighted kids and the young at heart with its beautiful and whimsical pieces. From toys to party decorations, crafts, and more, there’s always a unique, kitschy find that becomes a charming addition to the home or a memorable gift.

The love for the Danish brand has grown significantly since opening its first store in 1986. It now boasts over 1,000 stores across 36 countries, continuing to enchant customers worldwide with its collection of quirky yet practical items.

As a socially responsible retailer, Flying Tiger Copenhagen has implemented systems to minimize its environmental footprint. To date, it has proudly removed 47% of plastic from its packaging and has reduced overall emissions by 26%. Looking toward the long term, the brand has significantly reduced plastic consumption by removing more than 1/3 of single-use products from its offerings (37%) and using 19% less plastic in its products.

In designing and producing its items, Flying Tiger Copenhagen has found ways to use alternative materials like wood and metal instead of plastic, and has opted for recycled plastic instead of virgin plastic. Currently, 96% of its wood and paper products are FSC-certified – a mark from Forest Stewardship Council indicating that the products come from responsibly managed forests – and 96% of its packaging is recyclable.

CEO Martin Jermiin shares, “Since 2019, Flying Tiger Copenhagen’s entire value chain has undergone an ambitious green transition to become a lot more sustainable. We will reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by around 30% by 2026 and cut the consumption of plastic in our products in half by 2025. We also want to drive the shift away from single-use products by removing half of all single-use products in our assortment by 2025.” Driven by their long-term vision, he continues, “We are going all-in on sustainability. We want to be the frontrunners in the green transition of the retail industry and do our part to pass on a better globe to future generations.”

Flying Tiger Copenhagen has also committed to reducing plastic products by 50% by 2025, saving at least 5,000 tons of plastic per year from 2026; achieving 50% recycled plastics by 2025; and reducing single-use products by 50% by 2025. This means that by 2026, Flying Tiger Copenhagen will have around 34 million fewer single-use products.

By cutting plastic, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and responsibly sourcing materials, Flying Tiger Copenhagen’s large-scale sustainability plan will elevate the global brand even higher.

At Flying Tiger Copenhagen, delight in innovative products and creative designs while giving Mother Earth a helping hand. It’s shopping that’s not just fun, but also future-friendly—retail therapy with a conscience.
