As OPM became another form of art such as performance arts, the public began accepting it more openly and enthusiastically. The long lines, full theater studio, and glowing reviews about these kinds of musicals are testaments that art is truly versatile and resilient.

This March, OPM singer Rico Blanco’s music will turn into a prominent musical titled after his hit–‘Liwanag sa Dilim.’

Sneak peek into the story

During the exclusive press preview of the musical, the cast was asked to describe the musical in one word. It was fun and interesting as the cast began to give words that seemed to portray the varied mood and genre of the musical. At the same time, it sparked curiosity and piqued the interest of the media.

Filipina actress Alexa Ilacad used the word “riot” to describe the musical, actor Khalil Ramos used “visual,”  Vien King described it as “alab,” while Anthony Rosaldo used the word “love.”

With some of these words, some people might already know the main theme of the story, which we can only and surely find out by watching the musical in the theaters.

Powerful set of casts

Aside from these descriptions, one of the things that surprised us was when the creatives team revealed that the initial title of the musical was “Elisi.” Yet, due to the turn of events, its title was finalized as “Liwanag sa Dilim” and Elisi became the main character of the story in the form of Khalil.

During the press preview, the exceptional cast showcased their powerful vocals by singing some snippets of Blanco’s songs included in the musical such as 214, Kisapmata, and Posible.

The characters are not the only powerful part of the team but also especially the creative team behind the musical. Prominent persons behind the story are Robbie Guevara, Jonjon Martin, Mio Infante, and Orlando Dela Cruz for musical arrangements and orchestration.

Catalyst of change

The musical has been in the making for several years. Nonetheless, the cast and its story have one constant mission during those years: to be the catalyst of change amidst the status quo and the light amidst the darkness.

Watch how Elisi fights for justice along with his trusted ally, Chris, as they ignite a revolution that will redefine their worlds. The ‘Liwanag sa Dilim’ musical will be available for viewing from March 7 at the CPR Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City.
