For dedicated bibliophiles, there is an unparalleled thrill in being among the first to crack open a highly anticipated novel before it officially hits the shelves. The crisp scent of fresh pages, the unbroken spine, and the allure of an unread story all contribute to a truly magical experience.

Just in time to celebrate the global phenomenon of World Book Day last April 23, beloved homegrown bookstore Fully Booked invited passionate bookworms to experience this exact magic by stepping into their exclusive Reading Room.

Curated sneak peek for avid readers

For three exciting days, Fully Booked completely transformed The Studio (a dynamic space on the third floor of their BGC flagship store that typically hosts bustling book events) into a tranquil, dedicated "Reading Room". Here, literary enthusiasts are granted the rare opportunity to preview highly anticipated advance reading copies (ARCs) long before their official commercial release dates.

Visitors can expect a meticulously curated selection of upcoming releases that span multiple genres. Bookworms can dive into the early pages of Matt Haig’s The Midnight Train, swoon over Rainbow Rowell’s Cherry Baby, or get completely engrossed in Asako Yuzuki’s Hooked

Beyond the exclusive ARCs, readers can also get their hands on freshly published, highly talked-about titles such as Uketsu’s Strange Buildings and Jennette McCurdy’s Half His Age. It is a literary treasure trove designed to satisfy any reader's ultimate curiosity.

The ultimate try-before-you-buy experience

Finding the perfect book requires a connection, and sometimes a simple synopsis on the back cover is not quite enough to seal the deal. Fully Booked understands that diving into the actual prose is the ultimate test of compatibility.

“Reading a chapter or two is the best way for a reader to know whether a book is something they will delight in," shares Ilia Uy, Fully Booked’s Head of Marketing.

"We’re excited to facilitate this experience with our Reading Room sessions, in a space where reading can take center stage".

To make the experience even more immersive and nostalgic, bookworms visiting the Reading Room will be asked to register and will then be issued a special Reading Room Card. Much like a traditional library card, this will be used to record the specific titles they choose to borrow during their designated session.

Participants are generously given an hour and a half to read in the quiet comfort of the space. While readers are allowed to borrow and preview as many titles as they desire within their allotted timeframe, they are only permitted to check out one book at a time to ensure everyone gets a fair chance at the coveted stack.

A successful return to the literary sanctuary

Following a highly successful inaugural run last year, this marked the highly anticipated second time that Fully Booked hosted a Reading Room event. Slated to coincide with World Book Day, it took place from April 23 to 25 at The Studio, located on the third floor of the flagship store at Bonifacio High Street, BGC. As expected, it proved to be a major highlight of the local literary calendar.

Because the event aimed to preserve an intimate, quiet atmosphere conducive to deep reading, the Reading Room naturally offered a limited number of slots. Eager readers had to act fast to guarantee their entry into this exclusive literary haven, with interested bookworms having reserved their sessions by registering online prior to the event.

For those lucky enough to secure a spot, it was an extraordinary opportunity to celebrate World Book Day by turning fresh pages, discovering new favorite authors, and getting a coveted glimpse into the future of literature. If you missed out on the magic this time around, the overwhelming success of this year's run leaves plenty of hope for another chapter next year!
