The gentle chime of a choko cup striking another is far more than a simple social gesture. In the understated elegance of Japanese culture, it is a continuity of their heritage. While we frequently drink out of habit or thirst, partaking in sake is an act of communion—a shared conversation between the earth, and the disciplined soul of the toji (master brewer).

This cultural heartbeat finds its center as SAKE MANILA 2026 celebrates its third anniversary on May 22. For one night, the Grand Ballroom of Okada Manila becomes a tranquil refuge, offering a moment of stillness and tradition amidst the relentless pace of the city.

New Sake Labels

What is it about a beverage that inspires such deep respect? The secret is found in the intangible artistry behind the bottle.

At this week’s press conference, Philippine Wine Merchants (PWM) Director of Sales and Marketing, Mr. Raymond Joseph, presented a selection of labels that transcends a mere inventory, appearing instead as a carefully curated gallery of liquid masterpieces.

“This year, we’re bringing in exciting new labels such as Daisichi, Nanbubijin, Suegei, Koshino Kanbai, and more—giving our guests even more reasons to explore and discover the depth and diversity of sake,” he explained.

These additions complement an already impressive portfolio, offering access to rare, premium selections not commonly available in the Philippine market. Guests can expect an extensive selection of Japanese whiskies, spirits, and curated wines, elevated by expert-led tastings and brand showcases that turn a simple drink into an education of the senses.

A Sip of Two Worlds: Japanese Hospitality and Filipino Warmth

This event is a bridge built by the Joseph brothers—Raymond and Robi Joseph—whose family-owned PWM has spent over 45 years refining the local palate. As Robi Joseph shared, “Sake Manila is a unique fusion of tradition, flavor, and festivity—an experience we’ve carefully curated to leave a lasting impression on every guest.”

This partnership with a Forbes 5-star resort is intentional; Shirley Tam, Okada Manila’s EVP for Casino Marketing, notes that the resort is "deeply committed to creating experiences that strengthen cultural connections and elevate the appreciation of Japanese traditions" through a blend of Japanese hospitality and Filipino warmth.

This cultural symbiosis is best tasted on the plate. Chef Josef Teuschler, Okada Manila’s Director for Culinary, revealed that "every dish has been specially created for Sake Manila—designed not just to complement the beverages, but to become part of this one-night-only experience.”

It is this meticulous attention to detail that transforms the evening into a platform where craftsmanship and community meet.

One-Night Event at Okada Manila

As over 1,000 guests—a mix of enthusiasts, industry insiders, and Manila’s social crowd—gather, we ask: why does this one-night-only experience matter so much? It matters because we live in an age where curation usually happens on a screen. SAKE MANILA 2026 offers the opposite—a vibrant, energetic atmosphere that blends Japanese tradition with a modern Manila lifestyle.

As Raymond Joseph added, the event is ultimately about "bringing Japan’s finest closer to Manila—creating an experience that people can truly enjoy, appreciate, and remember.” By the time the final bottle is corked, you realize that the evening wasn't just about the liquid in the glass, but the bridge built between two worlds.

With limited tickets and high demand, early reservations via www.sakemanila.ph are essential to join this fleeting, beautiful event.
