When you clicked on this article, you were probably excited to learn about the story and plot of the ‘Liwanag sa Dilim’ musical. However, this article isn’t here to spoil anything–it’s here to encourage you to grab a ticket and experience it live on stage!
During the exclusive press preview, director and playwright Robbie Guevara made a special request to the media: no spoilers. He explained that, unlike other productions, they wanted to give the audience that “oh, okay” moment–the surprise and realization that comes with experiencing the story firsthand. So, in keeping with that promise, we’ll keep the details to ourselves and leave you to discover the magic in the theater.
Nonetheless, here’s what we can share: ‘Liwanag sa Dilim’ is a musical with a story that feels incredibly relevant to today’s world. It follows the journey of an orphaned child named Elesi and his friend Cris, as they search for Elesi’s parents.
But is that all? Absolutely not. While the premise might sound simple, the musical delivers much more than meets the eye. During the preview, it was clear that ‘Liwanag sa Dilim’ captures the essence of a story that resonates deeply with the present generation. It’s infused with a lighthearted comedy that doesn’t try too hard, making you laugh naturally as the plot unfolds. The humor flows seamlessly with the narrative, so nothing feels forced.
True to what director Robbie Guevara said, the musical leaves the audience in awe as its plot gradually unravels. The element of secrecy is key to the experience. While we can’t spoil the details, what we can say is that the music by OPM legend Rico Blanco is a highlight. His compositions blend perfectly with the musical, amplifying its message and emotional depth.
One thing is certain: the power of the musical’s message is undeniable. To fully understand what we’re talking about, you’ll have to experience it for yourself.
‘Liwanag sa Dilim’ is now showing at the CPR Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City, starting March 7.
