The Paseo de Roxas underpass has recently softened into a gallery, featuring a large-scale visual narrative, titled: “Security Bank x MUFG: A decade of people, planet, and prosperity.”
This installation serves as a permanent gesture of appreciation from Security Bank to MUFG Bank, celebrating a decade of their shared commitment.
This 2026 mural is an evolution of the banks’ previous presence in the area, replacing the 2019 installation, Art in Defense of Mother Nature. While the previous work focused primarily on environmental themes, the new design expands the scope to reflect a broader narrative of how two banking institutions can be purposeful for the community.
By placing this tribute in a high-traffic public space, Security Bank and MUFG have transitioned their corporate milestone into a civic landmark that documents a shared history of trust and long-term value creation.
People, Planet, and Prosperity
The mural is anchored by the 3Ps of sustainability—people, planet, and prosperity.
The “People” component highlights the human element of banking, focusing on the communities, families, and workforce that the institutions serve. It’s a reminder that beneath the high-level transactions of a decade-long partnership lies the fundamental goal to provide a reliable financial foundation for everyone.
On the other hand, the “Planet” and “Prosperity” sections illustrate the link between environmental health and economic resilience. These segments showcase the banks’ joint efforts in supporting clean energy projects and green financing, acknowledging that long-term financial stability is dependent on a healthy ecosystem.
“Public spaces like this are where people from all walks of life cross paths every day,” says A.G. Saño, the Filipino artist and environmental advocate behind the work. For Saño, the mural serves as a bridge between the abstract and the everyday.
“Through this mural, we wanted to reflect how people, the environment, and shared responsibility are connected through real experiences shaped by collaboration.”
Shaping a More Sustainable Future
The imagery throughout the underpass is immersive, detailing the tangible outcomes of the last ten years—from education and healthcare initiatives to the critical push for green financing and disaster response.
The 2026 mural places the youth and the Filipino workforce at the center, framing them as the active architects of the country’s future.
Reflecting on the milestone, Victor Lee Meng Teck, Security Bank President and CEO, sees the mural as a mirror of the bank’s internal culture.
“This mural is our way of honoring a decade of partnership with MUFG,” he says.
“It reflects not only what we have built together, but how we have chosen to build it—with a shared commitment to responsibility, long-term value, and meaningful impact beyond banking.”
It’s an admission that BetterBanking is about creating value through “meaningful contributions to communities and a more inclusive, resilient future.”
Security Bank x MUFG’s Decade Partnership
The collaboration between Security Bank and MUFG is grounded in an alignment of institutional values. For MUFG Manila, the mural represents the strength of their ten-year bond with the Philippine business community.
“As a global financial group headquartered in Japan, we are deeply grateful for the vibrant local business community here in the Philippines and our enduring partnership with Security Bank,” says Masami Yoshitake, Country Head of MUFG Manila.
He views the milestone as a testament to the trust that has allowed both banks to foster sustainable development together.
“We value the trust and shared purpose that have guided our journey together, and we look forward to continuing to build a better future alongside our partners.”
The project stands as a reminder that their decade of partnership have laid the groundwork for a future defined by shared purpose, proving that financial institutions can contribute significantly to the cultural and social framework of the cities they inhabit.
