Filipinos have a deep love for thriller movies, especially those featuring monsters, shapeshifters, and even zombies. This is evident from the popularity of various international thrillers that have gained significant attention in the country.
Now, Netflix Philippines is treating thriller fans to something special with their first zombie feature, Outside.
A Psychological Thriller
Directed by Carlo Ledesma, Outside is his most personal project to date. The film draws inspiration from Ledesma's childhood in Negros and his experience of isolation during the pandemic—a time when the concept for the film began to take shape.
Outside stars Filipino actors Sid Lucero, Beauty Gonzales, Marco Masa, and Aiden Patdu, with special appearances by Enchong Dee and Joel Torre.
True to its genre, Outside promises to leave both Filipino and international audiences terrified and on the edge of their seats.
A Story of Family Survival
Outside follows the story of a family seeking refuge at a secluded farmhouse during a zombie outbreak. The trailer opens with a scene of a rundown car marked with a handprint on the window as the family flees the city. Upon reaching their new home, they must confront psychological and emotional challenges as they adapt to their isolated surroundings.
According to director Carlo Ledesma, the film is not just about surviving the zombie pandemic but also about the family's struggle to maintain their bonds in the face of such a crisis.
More Than Just the Undead
Outside is more than your typical zombie film. It delves into the beauty and complexity of family relationships during times of extreme adversity. Amidst a lonely and desolate world, a family will fight for survival against both the undead and the strains that threaten to tear them apart.
The film will be available for streaming worldwide, exclusively on Netflix, starting October 17, 2024.
