Two nights where the lights are dim, hundreds of tiny flames flicker, and a string quartet begins to play. You brace yourself to Vivaldi, but then an unmistakable melody hits you. Is that Taylor Swift, or Olivia Dean?
Well, for a quartet, yes it is! And nobody in the room is even mad about the songs that’ll be played, even if it is not classical music.
Welcome to ADHIKA Vol. XI: Women in Pop, happening this weekend of November 7 and 8 at Cervantes, the versatile function venue of Discovery Primea in the heart of Makati. Presented by Oro Cultura, the candlelight concert stars The FourScore Quartet, who will perform live arrangements of songs by some of today’s biggest female artists, among them Olivia Dean, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Billie Eilish.
Your Playlist and Dress Up for the Evening
We all know these pop songs by heart. We screamed them in the car, whispered and hummed them at 2 AM, and belted them in the shower.
But this weekend, we will hear them reimagined through a quartet, where familiar hooks get a fresh voice and a very romantic backdrop. Think of it as your favorite pop playlist after you put on something nice and lit a few candles.
Right at the event floor, Cervantes will take on a romantic atmosphere for the occasion, with candlelight doing the mood lighting. It is a concert that feels less like a crowd and more like a secret you were invited into.
A Glass of Something Promdi
No candlelit evening is complete without a drink in hand. The concert will feature free-flowing local wines from Proudly Promdi, adding what organizers call a distinctly Filipino touch to the night.
Do you prefer something else? Before the performance and throughout the evening, the second-floor foyer outside Cervantes will host a beverage bar serving beer, cocktails, bottled water, and soda. Bring your valid ADHIKA ticket and you get 10% off beverages purchased at the bar. Consider it a small reward for being someone who plans ahead.
A Dinner and a Show
Hungry? Just head downstairs, at Tapenade, Discovery Primea’s Mediterranean-inspired restaurant on the ground floor is offering a candlelit dinner so the glow of the evening does not have to end when the final note fades.
Expect tapa-style dishes for sharing, stone-baked pizzas, fresh gourmet salads from its signature salad room, and Mediterranean specialties.
Dinner works either before or after the show, and a combined concert-and-dinner option is available for an additional charge. A 500 pesos reservation fee serves as a down payment and will be credited toward the final restaurant bill, so it is less a feel and more a head start on dessert.
However, reservations are subject to availability, so do not wait until the encore.
More Than a Night Out
Behind the glamour is a serious love for local talent. The concert is part of ADHIKA, Oro Cultura’s season-long tribute to Filipino artistry and culture. Oro Cultura is a Manila-based, artist-led community that brings together music, visual and performing arts, and community engagement, with the goal of celebrating Filipino identity and connecting artists with audiences.
“Partnering with Oro Cultura allows us to extend that support to music, bringing together the arts, hospitality, and the people who appreciate them,” said Rossana Unson, Marketing Communications Director of Discovery Primea, emphasizing that the Filipino-owned hotel the partnership fits right in.
General Manager David Pardo Ayala framed it as hospitality at its best.
“Hospitality is also about creating opportunities for people to come together through shared interests and experiences.” The hotel, which already hosted partnerships spanning art, fashion, dance, and music, hopes the concert gives guests another reason to discover both Cervantes and Tapenade.
