Bringing together leading galleries, acclaimed artists, and passionate collectors from across Asia, the 2025 edition of Art Jakarta promises a dynamic showcase of artistic innovation, cultural exchange, and market vitality. As the Fair continues to position Jakarta as a key player in the global art scene, Art Jakarta 2025 invites audiences to explore fresh narratives, push creative boundaries, and celebrate the pulse of Southeast Asia’s vibrant art ecosystem.
Taking place from 3 to 5 October at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, this year’s fair will feature 75 notable galleries from 16 countries across Asia and beyond. More than half of the participating galleries are from Indonesia, with 15 galleries joining the fair for the first time.
Artistic Director Enin Supriyanto shares, “We hope that Art Jakarta sparks optimism and excitement for art market activities in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. The Art Jakarta team has been working diligently to earn the trust of gallery managers from across the nation and abroad.” Art Jakarta is proud to welcome several prominent galleries this year, including Esther Schipper—an esteemed European gallery based in Berlin with spaces in Paris, New York, and Seoul. They also welcome Kaikai Kiki, the art institution founded by renowned Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, and Tina Keng Gallery, a pivotal institution in Asia known for championing Taiwanese and Chinese artists on the global stage. Their participation underscores that Art Jakarta—and Indonesia—has solidified its role as a vital hub for Southeast Asia’s art scene.
Among the many highlights of the Fair are the Special Presentations by Art Jakarta’s Lead Partners: Julius Baer, Bibit, Treasury, and myBCA. Julius Baer will host a VIP Lounge featuring Postcards from the Alps by Eddie Hara—a Basel-based artist with Indonesian roots—alongside his new work CALL 911. DESTROY BAD ART. Bibit presents a new iteration of Agus Suwage’s Self Portrait and the Theater Stage in an installation titled Portrait of Possibilities. Treasury collaborates with artist duo Azizi Al Majid and Nuri Fatimah—winners of the Treasury Art Prize—on the multisensory installation Reserve of Care. Meanwhile, myBCA will bring Muklay’s signature characters to life in an engaging visual experience.
The Fair’s Main Partners are also collaborating with artists to bring unique experiences to the event. SUPERMUSIC presents The Acceptance Gallery, an immersive space showcasing works by artisans from Java. Artist Ricky Janitra partners with iForte, using its solar-powered weather database to create a compelling audiovisual installation. Jessica Soekidi works with TACO to create a spatial installation inspired by the horizon at sunrise.
This year’s edition will also feature Spot, a section dedicated to large-scale installations and special presentations. Prominent Indonesian artists participating in this section include Ardi Gunawan (ISA Art Gallery), Ipeh Nur (ara contemporary), Endry Pragusta (Rachel Gallery), Aditya Novali (ROH), and Adi Gunawan (SANKHARA Art).
Ardi Gunawan will restage two works—a performance and a painting—in luckily there’s no inside (with friendly ghost). Ipeh Nur, who received a special prize from the Future Generation Art Prize, presents The Waves Haven’t Slept. Aditya Novali introduces a monumental sculpture titled Object Permanence (Intro), which begins with an inherited wooden wardrobe and reimagines it through various materials. Endry Pragusta’s Kelana Series explores the absurdity of existence, while Adi Gunawan reinterprets the story of Mona Lisa in Stolen Muse.
The Scene section, dedicated to collectives and artist groups, will bring energy and diversity to the Fair with 33 participants from cities across Indonesia, showcasing the richness of contemporary art practices beyond Jakarta.
Art Jakarta’s AJX program in 2025 features a wide range of presentations. Korea Focus will highlight artistic voices from Korea, featuring 12 Korean galleries in collaboration with the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Arts Management Service. The National Talent Management (MTN) program for Arts and Culture in the Visual Arts Sector, a national initiative supporting Indonesian artists, will showcase works curated by Agung Hujatnika under the theme Arus Baru (Rising Currents)—aligning with Art Jakarta’s commitment to strengthening the local art ecosystem. Natta-Cita Art Space (NCAS) from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar (ISI Bali) will bring Balinese contemporary art to the Fair, adding to the rich cultural representation.
Looking ahead, Art Jakarta also introduces the launch of a new fair: Art Jakarta Papers, set to take place from 5 to 8 February 2026 at City Hall, Pondok Indah Mall 3. This platform will focus on the medium of paper in contemporary art—from drawings and prints to sculptures and installations—fostering a fresh and vibrant market for paper-based works. It aims to connect with younger audiences and cultivate a new generation of collectors in Indonesia.
According to the organizers, what distinguishes Art Jakarta from other fairs in the region is the unique sense of camaraderie within Indonesia’s art community, which makes the event feel like a family reunion. “For the weekend, the city will be packed with so much energy. Artists from all over the country will be present, reuniting and connecting with people. Collectors from the region will fly out, visit museums and galleries. Some would even extend their visits to Bandung, Yogyakarta, or even Bali to meet with artists at their studios. Gallerists will ultimately be the busiest as most of them will be showcasing one of their best exhibitions of the year and welcoming a lot of guests during the Fair.”
