In the realm of entertainment, there exists a potent and time-tested formula: MUSIC + MOVIES = MAGIC. Picture this: a tone comes at you and envelopes your senses amidst a dimly lit theater, effectively bringing every emotion to life with fiery intensity and rendering each movie moment truly unforgettable. These musical themes—now forever to be associated with a time, a place, a face, a memory—have become an extension of one’s narrative, each song deeply etched in the heart.
Such marvel is revived through a night of entertainment, a celebration that cannot be missed:
Presenting “MUSIC, MOVIES, MAGIC” by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra Society, Inc. (PPOSI). This fundraising show, happening on November 22, Friday, at 7:30 PM, at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater, Makati City, aims to support the growth and development of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and its various initiatives, including the training and development of orchestra members, the promotion of international performances, and the expansion of outreach programs to build a supportive national audience. Witness the spectacle made possible by SSI Group, Inc., LCS Group of Companies, Sta. Elena Construction & Development Corporation, Megaworld Corporation, Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Rustan Coffee Corporation, and San Miguel Corporation.
Alongside theater and musical luminaries—including Arman Ferrer, Camille Lopez-Molina, Cris Villonco, Diomedes Saraza, Jr., Jonathan Velasco, Lara Maigue, Alice Reyes Dance Philippines, Philippine Madrigal Singers, and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, together with the show’s Music Director and Conductor Maestro Gerard Salonga—the show will transport audiences to worlds created by iconic songs and melodies that have defined many timeless films cherished throughout generations. Directed by Alexander Cortez, the evening will showcase a remarkable repertoire of both international and local hits.

A peek at “MUSIC, MOVIES, MAGIC”
A cinematic dreamscape unfolds as the anticipated show welcomes audiences into a moviehouse setting complete with moving curtains, flickering lights, and a marquee. The atmosphere is imbued with wonder as the show dazzles with familiar melodies, complemented by visual elements that highlight the film moments from which the musical pieces were culled. What awaits is a masterful repertoire curated for this special evening:
Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra
The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) sets the stage with Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus Overture, famously featured in the 1938 film The Great Waltz, which reflects the film’s grand portrayal of Strauss’s life and work. The PPO will also perform Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake; Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations: IX. Nimrod from the 1981 film Chariots of Fire; and Ennio Morricone’s Se from the legendary 1988 film Cinema Paradiso.
The stage will also be graced by distinguished local talents, each bringing their unique artistry and virtuosity to the performance.
Camille Lopez-Molina
Opera singer Camille Lopez-Molina will deliver a poignant rendition of Umberto Giordano’s La Mamma Morta, from the 1993 film Philadelphia, capturing the song’s emotional depth and the film’s powerful narrative. Likewise, concert violinist Diomedes Saraza, Jr. will mesmerize with Jules Massenet’s Thaïs: Meditation, a piece famously featured in the epic film Titanic, reflecting its sweeping romance and tragedy. Furthermore, award-winning soprano, Lara Maigue, will enchant with Mozart’s The Magic Flute: Queen of the Night from the film Impromptu, which retells the love story between the famed novelist George Sand and composer Frédéric Chopin.
Cris Villonco
Known for her versatility and contributions to theater, film, and television, Cris Villonco will enchant the stage with a medley of Michel Legrand’s classics from The Thomas Crown Affair, The Happy Ending, and Yentl—each piece paying tribute to the soundtracks that left an indelible mark on cinema. Alternately, Arman Ferrer, a leading figure in Filipino musical theater renowned for his performances in Walang Sugat and Lapu Lapu, will pay homage to homegrown compositions with a medley of George Canseco’s Paano Bang Mangarap and Gaano Kadalas ang Minsan.
Philippine Madrigal Singers
The Philippine Madrigal Singers will also perform Ryan Cayabyab’s Iduyan Mo, from the film Agila. Celebrated as a landmark in Philippine cinema, the movie narrates the life of Daniel Águila and spans the rich history of the Philippines.
In addition, the evening will feature a collaborative performance, as the PPO joins forces with Arman Ferrer, Camille Lopez-Molina, and Lara Maigue, alongside choral conductor Jonathan Velasco and Alice Reyes Dance Philippines, to present Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story: Tonight Quintet.
As Christmas quickly approaches, the show will conclude with festive cheer. Spreading joy to every Filipino heart, PPO and the Philippine Madrigal Singers will close with symphonies from the Home Alone soundtrack, featuring John Williams’ masterful compositions: Somewhere in My Memory, Star of Bethlehem, and Merry Christmas!
