Different techniques, different styles—yet the challenge lies in merging these artistic expressions into one cohesive work. Visual artists Clarence Chun and Luis Lorenzana have demonstrated that this is indeed possible through their collaboration in the CC x LL exhibition.

On Shared Canvases

In exploring the concept and discipline of art, both Clarence and Luis have developed their unique techniques and styles over time. Despite their differences, they found that respect, a willingness to learn, and a shared passion for the arts made it easier to blend their distinct approaches, resulting in pieces that resonate with both the eyes and emotions of their audience.

Their first collaborative series showcases both the differences and similarities in their techniques and styles on the shared canvases displayed in the gallery.

Fusion of Stillness and Movement

Upon entering the gallery, visitors are welcomed by intricately painted pieces that invite closer observation. In this collaboration, Clarence and Luis pushed their limits to merge composition, form, technique, and color to visualize speed and time.

As Luis describes it, the artworks represent a fusion of Clarence’s focus on fluidity and movement with his own emphasis on stillness and calmness. This interplay of styles—evident in every stroke, line, and shape—enhances the appeal of their creations.

Color Bond

Beyond the intricate details of the paintings, vibrant colors leap from the shared canvases. The artists’ affinity for color serves as their “common ground,” facilitating collaboration. This fascination is evident in every hue and shade, resulting in striking artworks filled with vivid colors and dynamic strokes.

A Home in a Gallery

It’s inspiring to see how the two artists have exceeded their capabilities to create such remarkable pieces, demonstrating that understanding each other’s vision can lead to incredible results. Luis likened this collaboration to “combining water with oil.”

Stepping inside the gallery, visitors are greeted by a cozy, home-like atmosphere that offers a sense of comfort reminiscent of one’s own home. The CC x LL exhibition conveys the message that meaningful art can thrive in intimate spaces, making it feel like a true “home.”

The CC x LL exhibit is open for viewing at MONO8 Gallery, Greenhills, San Juan City, from October 16 to November 24, 2024.
