BINI's meteoric rise to fame isn't just about catchy tunes and synchronized dance moves. These eight ladies, whose road to stardom was three years in the making, have rebooted P-Pop by weaving social consciousness, inclusivity, and female empowerment into the very fabric of their artistry.
Breaking Barriers with Sign Language
BINI’s commitment to inclusivity goes beyond mere lip service. An example of this is seen in their hit song "Karera," which wasn't just a chart-topper but also a groundbreaking statement.
The girl group incorporated sign language into the choreography, particularly during the song's chorus. This was first noticed when BINI performed their song on the noontime show “It’s Showtime” during the International Day of Sign Languages in September 2023. Their subtle insertion of sign language within their choreography actively reaches out to their hearing-impaired fans, ensuring they can experience the music in a truly unique way.
It wasn't just a performative gesture; BINI made sure to work with Filipino sign language experts to ensure the signs were accurate and meaningful. This tiny yet important detail speaks volumes about a value they hold dearly: making music a more inclusive experience where everybody feels a part and can join in the fun.
Allies Who Walk the Walk
This eightsome doesn't shy away from important social issues. For the longest time, the P-Pop idols have been vocal allies of the LGBTQIA+ community, consistently using their platform to advocate for inclusivity and acceptance.
Their impromptu performance at Rampa Drag Club was a powerful act of solidarity. By celebrating the vibrant drag scene and showcasing their support for the LGBTQIA+ community, BINI sends a clear message: their music is for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. This unwavering commitment to social justice sets them apart from many other idol groups who often shy away from controversial topics.
An Anthem for Women Everywhere
BINI isn't afraid to leverage their platform to empower others, especially women. Their album "Talaarawan," released on International Women's Day, is a testament to this. Each song is a powerful anthem celebrating female strength, resilience, and individuality. Mikha Lim's statement about their advocacy for women's empowerment resonates throughout the album. The music videos themselves feature the members in strong, independent roles, dismantling stereotypes and showcasing women who can achieve anything they set their minds to. "Talaarawan" isn't just an album; it's a movement, inspiring women and girls to embrace their confidence and chase their dreams.
BINI is more than just a group of singers and dancers. They are role models, advocates, and storytellers. By using their platform to push for inclusivity, social justice, and female empowerment, BINI is redefining what it means to be a P-Pop group. They are not just conquering the music charts; they are conquering hearts and minds, proving that Pinoy Pop is a powerful force with a message that resonates on a global scale.
