At the heart of Quiapo, Manila, the streets are never unbusy. Crowds head to the Minor Basilica & National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno, various stalls line the sidewalks, and the aroma of street food wafts in the air—these are the everyday scenes that breathe life into the area.
Aside from attending mass, one of the popular activities in Quiapo is going on a food crawl. You’ve probably heard of the viral Neneng B Hungarian Sausage or the trending Dragon Fruit Juice making rounds online.
But beyond its social media-famous eats, there is another crawl definitely worth trying in Quiapo—one that shines, sparkles, and inspires creativity. Just a minute walk from the church, you’ll find stores offering a dazzling array of beads, charms, and jewelry-making supplies.

Beads and boundless creativity
Handmade accessories, such as those made with beads, are more than just personal adornments. They are a reflection of the crafter’s personal expression and passion for creation.
Each handcrafted piece is made uniquely, carrying a story and special charm that machine-made products cannot duplicate. And stores like Wellmanson Beads & Accessories and DIY Beads have played a big part in supporting local crafters.
For Naya, an accessory maker, these shops have been instrumental in her business. She first learned about Wellmanson back in elementary school, when her grandmother, also a crafter, brought her there.
Fast forward to college, when she began creating accessories to sell, she came across Wellmanson again and discovered DIY Beads. It has been her go-to source for materials ever since.
“Ang dami nang natulungan ng mga ganung bead [stores]. Mahirap din kasi na online ka bibili. [Hindi] mo alam kung anong sukat ng butas ng beads,” Naya said during an interview with Art+, explaining why she keeps coming back to Quiapo instead of buying elsewhere.
“Saka ‘yun yung something na nilu-look forward ko kasi masaya, ang saya saya [kapag] nag-shoshopping ka dun ng mga gagamitin mo. Tapos parang, ‘next week madami akong magagawa, excited ako gumawa.’” she added.
The next time you plan to visit Quiapo, you might want to include these bead stores in your itinerary and who knows it may spark the hidden creativity within you?
