As time goes by, the world of beauty also evolves, changing standards and even stigmas. With these changes, the sphere of beauty and art collide with each other, making the public understand the complex yet beautiful process of cosmetics and creativity.

To delve deeper into the topic of cosmetics and beauty in general, we sat down with Alejandro Roberto Torrontegui, also known as ART, a Filipino beauty content creator, to know his beauty and art journey for Art+ Creator’s Spotlight.

Art initially uploaded random content such as trending dances and acting videos until 2022, when he took content creation seriously and decided to switch to beauty content creation because of his innate creativity and love for arts.

“Makeup caught my interest because it felt like another form of art. It took me about a year to improve my makeup skills, and I’m still learning and growing every day,” he narrated.

It was not an easy ride as Art was challenged by many things such as making video transitions and adapting his visual art skills from a flat surface into putting cosmetics on his skin.

The underlying beauty of authenticity

When asked about the essence of beauty, Art said the concept of beauty is subjective and goes beyond physical appearance, “For me, beauty embodies self-expression and the freedom to redefine what’s visually captivating.”

We then asked him what it takes to be an inspirational beauty content creator. “Well, to be a beauty content creator in general is just to be yourself. Authenticity helps people connect with you. I always stay curious and passionate—beauty is always evolving, so there’s room to learn and explore. Most importantly, I enjoy the process and stay true to my creative vision,” Art explained.

The must-haves and the go-to-look!

Indeed, we cannot forget to ask Art about his must-have cosmetics and beauty tools. So, we added a special list of makeups that you will always see on Art’s cosmetic case.

1. Eyeshadow palette - Since he started doing beauty contents, he invested in a high-quality eyeshadow palette containing a wide variety of colors to experiment with bold and unconventional looks.

2. Detailed brushes - Art also has a set of detailed brushes, considering it a big must have, as it helps him to achieve precise lines and intricate designs needed for specific looks.

3. Color corrector - Meanwhile for daily makeup, he always uses color corrector to help him neutralize uneven skin tone.

4. Concealer - After using the color corrector, it is his ritual to use a good concealer to brighten and cover imperfections to achieve that perfect base.

5. Liquid blush - To complete the list, his final must-have is his favorite liquid blush which enables him to add a natural, dewy flush to his cheeks, while specifically saying that he’s been in love with muted blushes recently.

Among all of these, there’s one beauty tool he can’t live without. This is the Medicube Age-R Booster Pro, which truly improves his skin, keeping it in a good condition for makeup art.

As we are curious about his go-to looks, we also asked him on the spot: If there’s a beauty style you will wear for the rest of your life, what is it and why?

“Oh my! Club Kid makeup style has always been a major inspiration for me! It was one of my go-to looks when I first started doing makeup. The bold, expressive elements of this style resonate deeply with my creative approach, it shares similarities with surrealism art,” Art excitedly said.

Synergy of art and beauty

Art initially loved art and photography before diving into the world of beauty. He described how art and beauty are connected with each other. “Art challenges us to look beyond the surface, encouraging a deeper appreciation and emotions—just like beauty does.”

Art believes we always need to be open to finding beauty in all forms, whether it is a bold masterpiece, a subtle expression, or even imperfections to truly appreciate art, because all of these tell meaningful stories that are worth sharing.

“Being beautiful is about authenticity and kindness. True beauty comes from being genuinely kind, treating others with empathy and compassion,” said Art.

In beauty, learning must be consistent. Art gave some advice to aspiring beauty content creators and makeup beginners saying they must start with the basics, learn to layer products properly, and become familiar with color theory.

Finally, he emphasized the last tip to make your look standout: “Confidence is key.” True beauty comes from within, stemming from your personality, combined with the confidence and courage to express yourself freely.

“Beauty is about embracing who you truly are and expressing yourself unapologetically and allowing your confidence to radiate naturally.”
