I let my dress talk for me, drip talk for me, my move talk for me

My lip gloss popping like our discography

Indeed, the Met Gala became an “XGala” as the Xtraordinary Girls, popularly known as XG, released their pre-release single, ‘GALA’ on September 19, ahead of their untitled first full album comeback in January—all while rocking metallic, retro-futuristic outfits that set social media ablaze.

With their trademark Y3K aesthetic, the girl group stormed the Met Gala in alien-invasion-esque style, showcasing out-of-this-world haute couture, impressive lyricism, and perfectly synchronized dance moves.

Y3K, short for Year 3000, represents a futuristic fashion vision marked by metallic colors and esoteric designs. Let’s break down XG’s gala outfits in all their bizarre glory.

Harvey in Black & White

Strutting in a sleek white suit adorned with hemp and pearls along the waistline, Harvey commands attention with her void-like eyes, exuding an eldritch aura that takes over the night, proving she’s pretty in black.

Topped with circular, woven headgear, her bleached hair bears a mirrored “LOVER” across it, perfectly complementing the heart-shaped cutout at her chest. Just as her long, curly eyelashes frame her eyes, her elongated black nails feature hair-like protrusions, giving the eerie impression that her fingers have eyes. The look is completed with Iron Maiden-style shoes, crafting a beautiful nightmare of fashion.

Golden Girl Chisa

Glamour me gold, glamour those never seen

In all the name of eternity

There's no need to pretend, you're the undying fire

In this night of fate

Channeling her inner “Gaga,” Chisa debuts short hair paired with 3D-printed golden vertebrae and glittered skin-tone tights draped with brown fabric, fully embodying the fiery goddess she is.

The brown dress, voluminous to match her stature, hugs her body perfectly, emphasizing the glimmering jewelry that adorns her form. Golden vertebrae on her chest, wrists, and earrings provide a striking visual weight, preventing the look from feeling incomplete.

Her face is etched with streaks of golden glitter, further complemented by long fingernails adorned with gold and silver gems. From head to toe, Chisa’s body gleams with silver accents, grounded by earthy boots intertwined with metallic brown leaves and branches.

UFO Bride Jurin

XG’s leader Jurin evokes the iconic oil painting Girl with a Pearl Earring by Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer in her side-view bust shot against a red background—veiled in ethereal white clothing and accented with two UFO disk-shaped headpieces.

The glimmering gems adorning her eyes create a cosmic effect, while the esoteric vertebrae at her chest anchor the look in a nightmarish, alien aesthetic. Her pure white dress flows and folds gracefully over her body, casting her in a bride-like image that feels like an otherworldly wedding.

Punk Rock in Cocona

Cocona, following her surprising haircut scene in Howling, stuns again with a bald look—unapologetically rock and raw. Spikes protrude from her scalp as metallic piercings replace her eyebrows and also adorn her ears and jaw.

Metallic pieces trace her body in a distinctly Y3K style, accenting her neck, wrists, waist, and nails, and complementing her scaly black outfit covered with tiny glimmering silver adornments. The overall simplicity serves to highlight her striking head in all its shaven glory.

Indeed, Cocona simply says “yes” to her hairstylist—a playful nod to being her own stylist after shaving her head due to styling challenges in Korea.

Virtual Angel Hinata

Designed by the “demi-couture” brand La Lune, Hinata appears as an angelic robot in a virtual world, sporting 3D-printed wings as headgear, with intricate wiring braided into her blue hair. An LED mouthpiece covers her lips, seemingly translating text in place of her voice.

Her streamlined bodysuit is complemented by large metallic bone wings, giving her the appearance of a celestial being, while platform shoes encased in 3D-printed metallic winged heels complete her breathtaking virtual angel look.

Bionic, All Metallic Princess Juria

Also by La Lune, Juria fulfills her wish to be a princess—all in her dynamic bubblegum pink hair, mustard yellow highlights, and silver suit. Matched with the futuristic silverworks is a retro white corset to fill the concept of royalty in the year 3000.

Wires are protruding from her headdress as she belongs in the same virtual world as Hinata, but she graces in a different style: unlike a seemingly untouchable and cold virtual angel, Juria is a bubbly princess strapped with silver garments in a clashing fashion attire that just paradoxically makes perfect sense for her.

Maya just MUGATU gets it!

Looks so sharp, Hattori Hanzo linen

Then I hit ‘em with the blue steel,

MUGATU, get it?

In her all-blue attire, Maya desires to be seen. Fashioning crescent-shaped headgear and a layered dress of leggings, corset, and chic top, she does not feel bland at all, despite wearing only metallic blue.

A flowing blue cloth drapes over her legs, a contrast to her sharp attire. She appears to be ribboned like a gift by her waist, popping over the mustard yellow backdrop and golden glitters.

X-GALA is XG at its best

Met Gala should be inviting XG after all this gatecrashing runway music—they just never disappoint! Each outfit brings out more of their individual personalities, which, in a girl group essence, is something rare, as fans normally love to see groups perform as closely knitted.

From an eldritch creature, a punk rockstar, to a robotic princess, XG returns in all its visual profundity—embracing the eerie and weird sense of individuality into fashion. Xtraordinary, indeed.
