There’s nothing like the feeling of being home for Christmas. For Filipino families, holiday gatherings are a cherished tradition—one we hold dear, because for us, Christmas is all about family.

In the Philippines, the holiday season begins early, and no Christmas is complete without the familiar songs of the legendary Jose Mari Chan. His timeless music has become synonymous with the Filipino Christmas spirit, an enduring symbol of the season’s joy.

This year, Chan, in collaboration with Repertory Philippines (REP), is offering a magical Christmas experience with his very own musical, Going Home to Christmas.

Festive Spirit

Directed by REP Artistic Director Jeremy Domingo, with a script by Joel Trinidad, Luna Griño-Inocian, and Robbie Guevara, the musical tells the touching story of Filipinos abroad, particularly Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), making their way home for the holidays.

“One thing that’s very close to Mr. Chan’s heart is the life of OFWs,” said Domingo. “His music offers them comfort and hope, and they take that with them wherever they go.”

The show features the iconic music of Jose Mari Chan, arranged by musical director Ejay Yatco. Audiences will enjoy 22 of Chan’s beloved songs, including classics like Christmas in Our Hearts, A Perfect Christmas, and many more.

A true celebration of Filipino Christmas traditions, Going Home to Christmas is one of REP’s most anticipated homegrown jukebox musicals. Chan, whose name is almost synonymous with Christmas, wanted the musical to capture the heartwarming essence of the season—a festive experience that celebrates home, family, and the spirit of Christmas.

A Dream Fulfilled

At an exclusive media launch, Chan shared the joy and fulfillment of seeing his iconic songs transformed into a live performance. “I can’t express the joy of watching the cast and the team bring my songs to life on stage,” he said. “For me, this is the fulfillment of a dream I had as a young boy.”

REP President and CEO Mindy Perez-Rubio echoed these sentiments, expressing the organization’s pride in creating a musical tribute for a true music icon and a beloved friend.

Everyone Is Going Home

Through Going Home to Christmas, the warmth and magic of celebrating Christmas with loved ones is brought to life, encouraging everyone to return home for the holidays. With Chan’s greatest hits woven into the storyline, the musical offers a sense of nostalgia, comfort, and familiarity that will resonate deeply with audiences of all ages.

With its heartfelt narrative and festive spirit, Going Home to Christmas is a must-see for families, sharing the timeless message that this Christmas, everyone is going home.

The musical will be available for a limited run from November 29 to December 15 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati.
