As National Arts Month draws to a close, featured art galleries remain up and running all year round, open for any budding art enthusiast or collector to pay a visit. Witness talents both seasoned and fresh, and perhaps even pick up a piece or two while you’re at it.

In this first edition of our new series, "Art in the City," let’s take a look at what the East has to offer. Step away from the hustle and bustle of commerce and urban life to explore what Mandaluyong City, in particular, has to offer. Affectionately dubbed as the “Tiger City of the Philippines” in the early 2000s due to its promising economic growth, it is only fitting that Mandaluyong’s cultural spaces have been taken along for the ride, its growing contemporary art community matching its stride.

With no time to spare, here are 5 galleries you should tick off your gallery-hopping bucket list when you find yourself in Mandaluyong City.

Nami Art Gallery

Nami Art Gallery is home to both emerging and established artists. Here, you can readily view and take home the works of several renowned names in the realm of Filipino contemporary art, like painter and sculptor Manuel Baldemor as well as that of abstractionist Raul Isidro. This March, patrons can look forward to "Femme Fusion," an exhibit lined up just in time for Women’s Month. You can also find Nami Art Gallery’s sister branch further east at the Pioneer Center in Pasig City.

Artinformal Gallery

Artinformal Gallery’s digital presence is also not to be reckoned with, as their virtual tours facilitated via video walkthroughs and 3D space capture have both archived and readily showcased their art collections for the online viewing public. As the name may suggest, Artinformal Gallery sets a precedent for progression and transformation in how it treats its space, be it online or in person. Artinformal’s first home in Mandaluyong is where the gallery holds most of its curator-led group exhibitions, while solo exhibitions take center stage down South at their Makati branch found at The Alley at Karrivin.

Paseo Gallery rings as a familiar name as it has regularly participated in several local art fairs, such as ManilArt, Art Fair Philippines, and the Modern and Contemporary Art Festival, to name a few.

Imahica Art

Relatively new to the Mandaluyong art community, this independent gallery has had no trouble picking up pace since its founding in 2021. At Imahica Art, opportunities abound as they aim to foster connections between emerging artists and potential investors from various industries, ensuring that their art breathes life into spaces beyond their own. The gallery is also gearing up for its commemoration of Women’s Month through "La Moderna Filipina 2024," an exhibit celebrating the works of 12 contemporary Filipina artists.
