Crafted back in 1989 with a deep-rooted history in Jalisco, Mexico, Patrón has become one of the most globally known tequila brands. From beginning to the end, it’s crafted with 62 hands to ensure a simply perfect serve for the world to enjoy. The journey starts with blue agave which is carefully cultivated and harvested upon its maturity. The process takes a long 6-8 years to finally complete.
The harvest is then brought back to Hacienda Patrón, where every single one of the piñas undergoes cooking in traditional clay brick ovens with alternating periods of steaming and resting for 79 hours. This is all done in only 106 small batch brick ovens, which ensure consistent cooking to achieve the fruity flavors.
After the agave is cooked, they move on to the milling and crushing. The procedure used by Patrón is the Tahona method, which entails crushing the agave between two non-volcanic rocks and extracting 70% of the juice; the fiber is left for continuous fermentation to add more flavor. Not all tequila undergoes this process as it is very time consuming. However, Patrón does this to capture more of the essential tasting notes to make the final product simply perfect.
The next essential step is the fermentation process, Patrón uses a double distillation process which removes and boils off harsh by-products. This results in a much smoother liquid. All of this happens in Patrón ‘s 167 hot copper pots for a consistent flavor.
After fermentation, the liquid now undergoes aging. Depending on the category of Patrón, they undergo aging for up to 3 years in the highest quality barrels. No additives are added in the making, ensuring that the product is pure and unadulterated.
After fermentation, Patrón is almost at the end of its craft journey and is ready to be bottled. This careful process is the only machine assisted process in its entire journey. After filling, the bottles are then meticulously hand corked, labelled and wrapped.
This entire journey from the blue agave up to the finished product passed through 60 hands to reach the 2 final hands of the consumer who will finally open the bottle to enjoy and share. A drink can be casually sipped neat or even creatively concocted as delicious cocktails. A cocktail enjoyed around the world is the Paloma that combines Patrón Silver with grapefruit soda for a light and refreshing summer drink. The Patrón Margarita or the Patrónic that is inspired by the classic margarita. It is a simple recipe that uses lime and orange notes, crafted with Patrón Reposado. Whichever way you decide to go, this long hand-crafted journey ensures that every sip of Patrón is and will always be perfect.
