A woodcarved sculpture entitled “Felicity” by sculptor artist Benjamin Dailo.
Year: 2017 Size: H39.37 or 1 meter
Hailing from a town famed for its elaborate wood carving and sculptures, Benjamin Dailo is no stranger to exemplary craftsmanship.
Yet unlike any reinvents a medium typically associated with traditional themes. With a keen eye for detail matched with a sense of bold aesthetic, he renders his works in driftwood he finds washed ashore, transforming often-ignored sea debris into a work of pure visual elegance.
Dailo takes inspiration from the nature of driftwood in breathing life into his creations. Deviating from common religious themes often associated with wooden sculptures – as Paete, Laguna is celebrated for – he hones the driftwood into stunning physical forms and aspect of the feminine. Dailo is best known for his strong and impressive renditions of child-bearing woman, a fundamental symbol of nurture and strength of the woman.
Dailo passed away on May 01 2017 and this sculpture is one of his last piece of artworks.
