On 23rd April 2020, in the midst of uncertainty brought upon by the current global health crisis and the country’s Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), Modeka Creative Space launched its first online show entitled Horizons of Inevitability. The digital exhibition is free for all and can be accessed through their website’s new section, “Experiences”. Aside from its opportune way of holding art shows, Experiences will host simulations of physical exhibitions in the post-pandemic future.
Curated and designed by Lena Cobangbang and Riccardo Corsini, the digital exhibit features artists AK Ocol, Argie Bandoy, Buboy Cañafranca, Galaxie Maria, Jayson Oliveria, Jed Escueta, MM Yu, Robert Langenegger, Romeo Lee, The Weather Bureau, and Vic Balanon.

Where art is concerned, it figures in a space of inevitability, as a spontaneous act birthed from the circumstances of its time. It pulses and breathes, it expands and mutates with the space of its imagining, more so in weathering the interim of this current crisis where the challenge is greater. Horizons of Inevitability (HOI) is presented herein in this extraordinary period, as an experiential space in the virtual world. It presents the possibility of exhibit viewing in the anticipated aftermath of the new normal as there are many ways however that this can be mounted in such space.
The works from the artists of HOI are poised as curious trajectories to meanings, and subtexts offered in the framework of the text-as-curatorial premise. Here they exist purely as image, as language itself, as ideas in themselves, that birth webs of other trajectories of ideas. The virtual space is wide open for such, a providential contradiction to our constrained physical bodies. Modeka Creative Space enthuses you to enter these horizons of possibility.
In light of the pandemic, Modeka will donate part of the sales from Horizons of Inevitability to our brave frontliners through the Art for Life – a fundraiser initiated by friends from the art community. This program aims to raise funds to donate medical equipment and items to support our selfless and brave health care workers.
