This 2020, Kulay Sa Tubig Annual Invitational Watercolor Competition by Gallery Genesis will celebrate its 32nd year adjusting with the new normal. Aside from the on-site exhibition in SM Megamall, the yearly contest found a way to connect with its audience by releasing an online exhibition. Over 100 participating artists will compete to name 1 Hall of Fame, 5 Top Watercolorists, and 5 Runners-up.

The Kulay Sa Tubig Exhibition aims to raise funds for the benefit of the frontliners of the UP Philippine General Hospital. 75% of the gross profit from the art for a cause exhibition will be used to purchase face masks, personal protection equipment, and other essential medical items for the front liners of UP PGH. Gallery Genesis said in a release, “Right now, our beloved countrymen, like the rest of the world, are besieged from all fronts by the invisible enemy – the corona virus. Millions have suffered, died, and continue to suffer worldwide. Thus, we would like to help, in our own special way, our beloved front liners who risk their lives daily so others like us may live and survive the pandemic.”
Kulay Sa Tubig is an Invitational Watercolor Competition and Exhibition to choose the Top 5 Philippine watercolorists in the country. In addition to the annual winners and runners up, there is a Hall of Fame category exclusively for the Top 5 winners. Artists who are able to go to the Hall of Fame are those who have won at least three times throughout the years. These Hall of Famers are considered to be the best in Kulay Sa Tubig competitions. They may or may not compete under a separate special category with their fellow Hall of Famers. The winner from among them will be recognized as the Best Among the Best for this year’s Kulay Sa Tubig. These Hall of Famers include: Manny Baldemor, Marge Lim, Noli Principe Manalang, Chris Mirang, Billy Pomida Jr., Adi Santos, Jimmy Vista, and Wong Shui Loong. Past Hall of Famers include Rodelio “Toti” Cerda, Egai Fernandez, Biboy Delotavo and Ping Ceriola, among others.
This year also boasts a powerhouse panel of judges: Tina Colayco (President, Metropolitan Museum Manila), Felipe De Leon Jr. (Former Chairman, NCCA), Millie Dizon (Senior Vice President, SM Retail), Kenneth Esguerra (Senior Curator, Ayala Museum), Patrick Flores (Senior Curator, Vargas Museum), Cid Reyes (Art Critic and Art Writer), and Armita Rufino (Former President of CCP; President, The Filipino Heritage Festival Inc.).
