Art merchandises have gathered significant hype in the past few years with some mainstream and niche brands launching art related collections. These include apparel giant Uniqlo, high fashion brands Louis Vuitton and Dior, shoe legend Dr. Martens, as well as local ones like Bench, and DBTK.
In 2019, two Filipino artists Sarah Geneblazo and Jerome Castillo Montañez decided to build Obra Clothing. “Nabuo ang Obra Clothing dahil [naghahanap ako] ng art related merchandise para sa koleksyon ko [at ni Jerome].” said Geneblazo. The duo noticed the lack of available art merchandise in the market, especially ones made or designed by local artists.
(“We make face masks printed with artworks made by local Filipino artists. We also entertain personalized face mask designs. Since then, a lot of artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts have supported Obra Clothing’s face masks.” Geneblazo continues, “From that simple face mask, we evolved to making the product using better materials like PPE-grade cloths. This is what we use for Obra Clothing’s collaborations with artists.”)
Aside from face masks and shirts, Obra Clothing offers tube masks, tote bags, string pouches, and wallets. Soon they will be launching new products.
