LONDON 20 October 2021 – The Philippine Embassy in the London hails the United Kingdom (UK) premiere of the Filipino film “Whether the Weather is Fine (Kun Maupay Man It Panahon),” as one of the participating films in this year’s London East Asia Film Festival (LEAFF) which is held from 21 to 30 October 2021.
“Whether the Weather is Fine (Kun Maupay Man It Panahon),” starring Daniel Padilla, Charo Santos-Concio and Rans Rifol, is set against the backdrop of Typhoon Haiyan and is a personal story with a surreal edge from talented director Carlo Francisco Manatad, in his feature directorial debut.
Miguel (Daniel Padilla) emerges in the aftermath of the storm searching for his mother Norma (Charo Santos-Concio) and girlfriend Andrea (Rans Rifol). When he finds them, Miguel suggests they leave, but Norma wants to find her estranged husband, while Andrea has other concerns.
The visually stunning film is a poignant drama that highlights the meaning of community spirit and would resonate with audiences as the world faces a climate crisis.
The UK premiere of “Whether the Weather is Fine” takes place at the Chiswick Cinema on 28 October at 18:30.
The 2021 London East Asia Film Festival brings 33 films from across East Asia to London from 21 and 31 October as one of the only London film festivals to be operating exclusively in cinemas this year.
Filipino Wins Best Director Award at London East Asia Film Festival 2021
LONDON, 10 November 2021 – “Whether the Weather is Fine (Kun Maupay Man It Panahon)” director Carlo Francisco Manatad bagged the Best Director award at the recently concluded London East Asia Film Festival (LEAFF).

The jury was chaired by Nick James, former editor of Sight & Sound, a British monthly film magazine published by British Film Institute (BFI). Other jurors were Hannah McGill, former artistic director of the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and Damon Wise, BFI Festival advisor.
Director Manatad, the youngest director with an entry to this year’s LEAFF, accepted his award via a video message.
Set against the backdrop of Typhoon Haiyan in 2013, “Whether the Weather is Fine” was one of 33 films that participated in this year’s LEAFF and stars Daniel Padilla, Charo Santos-Concio and Rans Rifol.
