Preceding its reputation as a pioneer of classical and modern ballet in the Philippines, Ballet Manila Inc. (BMI) is hosting its first production at the Hyundai Hall in Areté from September 16 to 17, 2023. The renowned performing arts company will stage an adaptation of the classic tale “Romeo + Juliet” with a matinee show scheduled for each date and a final performance on closing night. Join us as theatre merges with dance to showcase British choreographer, Martin Lawrence, and his extraordinary variation of Shakespeare’s tragic, forbidden love story.

This collaboration is fully aligned with Areté’s vision of working with various organizations to strengthen awareness of local artistry across multiple disciplines. Filipinos have historically used dance as a form of nation-building as it bridges cultures to share meaningful stories and Ballet Manila has mastered the art of interpretation through movement. With BMI Artistic Director & Areté Board of Director, Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, at the helm of the production, patrons of ballet from Northern and Eastern Manila will no longer need to travel too far to experience this special event.

Dr Ricardo G. Abad, Artistic Director of Areté, says. “I've been dreaming of a partnership like this for Arete, and I was thrilled to know that Liza had a similar vision for Ballet  Manila.  This partnership will strengthen our creative and social missions as we strive to reach out to diverse publics and communities. Join us in this effort."

“Romeo + Juliet” will be just one of the many performances and projects to be developed through this partnership between both creative institutions. Participants in future activities can expect workshops and seminars to be offered to the public including the Dance for Wellness program and “Ballet for Everyone”, Ballet Manila’s starter class for aspiring ballerinas.

Tickets to “Romeo + Juliet” will go on sale starting August 30,2023 . To purchase your seats, visit https://premier.ticketworld.com.ph/
