Performance became one with visual arts in the Philippine edition of “In Situ, Performance as Exhibition”

Art can manifest in various forms, even transforming from performance into visual expression. A prime example of this is "In Situ: Performance as Exhibition, The Philippine Edition," where the power of the performing arts is reimagined in an exhibition format.

Body as the Medium

In collaboration with Belarmino & Partners, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) presents "In Situ: Performance as Exhibition." This unique showcase uses the human body as its primary medium to present art in public spaces.

The exhibition emphasizes the shared experiences between artists and audiences, set against the diverse urban and rural landscapes of the Philippines.

A Collaboration of Danish and Filipino Artists

Curated by Filipina curator Vanini Belarmino, the performances will feature eight standout works choreographed by Danish artist Kai Merke. These performances will highlight the artistry of Danish visual and performing artists Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen, Molly Haslund, Sophie Dupont, and Filip Vest.

Joining them are Filipino talents, including choreographers and performers Christine Crame, Ea Torrado, and the Daloy Dance Company, along with multidisciplinary artists Sasa Cabalquinto, Jeremy Mayores, and Kyle Confesor, all collaborating in this groundbreaking exhibition.

This project is made possible with the support of the New Carlsberg Foundation and the Danish Arts Foundation.

Art in Public Spaces

"In Situ" will delve into the dynamic interaction between artists, audiences, and the local communities where the art unfolds. The exhibition offers a fresh perspective on how art is shaped by—and in turn, shapes—the spaces it occupies.

“The goal of this initiative is to present art in public spaces, allowing us to reach a broader audience and introduce more people to the world of art,” said CCP Artistic Director Dennis Marasigan.

The performances will be held in iconic outdoor locations such as Mount Makiling in Los Baños, the shores of La Union, the streets of Roxas Boulevard and CCP Complex, Intramuros, and the courtyards of the CCP and Manila Metropolitan Theater.

"In Situ: Performance as Exhibition" will be available for viewing from October 15 to 26, 2024 in these select locations.
