Aside from featuring established and new galleries in the metro, MoCAF also welcomes the participation of international galleries. Get to know the four galleries – from Japan and Malaysia – that will be exhibiting at MoCAF this year.
YOD TOKYO & Editions
YOD Gallery was founded in 2008 in Osaka to support the local art scene and emerging artists working in new media such as video, photography, and installation. In 2020, a new branch of the gallery, YOD Editions, was established, also in Osaka, focusing on cutting-edge young artists, street art, and edition works. Aiming to expand its influence in East Japan and globally, the third branch of the gallery, YOD Tokyo, was opened in Tokyo’s Harajuku area in 2022.
Gallery Kogure
The Tokyo-based Gallery Kogure was founded in 2006 by its director, Hiroshi Kogure, who had previously worked for 18 years at an art gallery in Ginza. The qualities prized by the gallery in selecting their artists include those who create works that are objectively beautiful, those who employ great skill and technique, and those who are receptive to the art of various cultures, especially modern Japan.
Kobayashi Gallery
Located in Ginza, which is known as Tokyo’s art district, Kobayashi Gallery was established in 1978. In recent years, it has focused on discovering and supporting new young artists. The artists they are featuring in MoCAF include Izumi Akiyama, Shiori Saito, and Rina Yokouchi.
Artemis Art
Promoting young and emerging artists from Southeast Asia, Artemis Art has, since 2021, focused on its online presence, rather than operating a physical gallery. Artemis Art collaborates with galleries outside of Malaysia and participates in select art fairs. For MoCAF, they’re bringing the works of Anisa Abdullah, Dedy Sufriadi, Mnookin, Sarcita, Syahbandi Samat, and Taufik Ermas.
