Global Auction is thrilled to present the online auction “Southeast Asian, Chinese, Modern & Contemporary Art,” concluding with a live event on November 28, 2024. This collection features 125 expertly curated artworks from distinguished Indonesian and international artists, including renowned maestros. Each piece presents a captivating visual experience, rich in depth and meaning, showcasing a diverse array of techniques, mediums, and artistic styles.

Let’s take a look at some highlighted works in this auction. There are various special collections featuring paintings from renowned names such as Hendra Gunawan, Affandi, Harijadi Sumadidjaja, Sudjana Kerton, S. Sudjojono, Widayat, and other talented artists.
Hendra Gunawan
Hendra Gunawan is an Indonesian artist born in Bandung who began painting in the 1930s. He masterfully blended traditional Indonesian themes with a modern artistic approach, creating works that remain celebrated today in galleries and museums worldwide, including the Venice Biennale 2024.
Affandi
Affandi is one of the most prominent maestros in 20th-century Indonesian art. He was the first Indonesian artist to participate in the prestigious São Paulo Biennale (1952) and Venice Biennale (2024). Together with President Soekarno, Affandi brought international recognition to Indonesia through his portraits of world leaders and nobility.
Harijadi Sumadidjaja
Harijadi Sumadidjaja was a self-taught painter and a key figure in the Young Indonesian Artists (Seniman Indonesia Muda or SIM) organization. As a realist artist, he played a significant role in the Indonesian Revolution, creating works that emphasized the ideals and struggles of the common people.
Sudjana Kerton
Sudjana Kerton was an Indonesian painter born in Bandung during the country’s transition from Dutch colonial rule to independence. In the early 1950s, Kerton studied art in Europe, including the Netherlands and France, and explored the role of artists during the Mexican Revolution during his visit to Mexico. He also studied at the Art Students League of New York.
S. Sudjojono
Sindudarsono Sudjojono, also known as S. Sudjojono, was a pioneering Indonesian artist, art critic, and writer, often hailed as the father of Indonesian modern art. He was instrumental in shaping the art movement in Indonesia, co-founding influential groups such as PERSAGI (Association of Indonesia Drawing Specialists) and Seniman Indonesia Muda (Young Indonesian Artists’ Collective).
Widayat
A pioneer of Indonesian modern art, Widayat was among the inaugural class of the Indonesian Academy of Fine Arts (ASRI) in Yogyakarta, born in 1923. After graduating in 1954, he dedicated his career teaching at the academy, shaping generations of artists. His works, celebrated for their unique blend of Indonesian tradition and contemporary aesthetics, often exude a magical charm.
In addition to the featured paintings, the auction includes contemporary creations by modern artists and a selection of sculptures, each thoughtfully curated.
Art collectors and enthusiasts are invited to view these works in person at Global Auction’s gallery on Jl. Tanah Abang IV No. 23-35, Central Jakarta, from November 12 to 28, 2024. The gallery is open daily from 09:00 to 17:00. The online auction will go live on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at 19:00 (UTC+7 / Jakarta time).
