To bring Philippine art to a wider international audience, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, through its Visual Arts and Museum Division, has loaned five significant artworks from its collection to the National Gallery Singapore. Artworks from the CCP 21st Century Art Museum (21AM) Collection are featured in National Gallery Singapore’s latest exhibition, Fernando Zobel: Order is Essential.

In addition to Fernando Zobel’s “Ku III,” artworks created by Zobel’s peers were loaned by the CCP including David Cortez Medalla’s “Portrait of Fernando Zobel” and “Fernando Zobel Lecturing on Art and a Student Listening II,” Jose Joya’s “Painting No. 1,” and Manuel Rodriguez Sr.’s “Calligraphic Oracle.” The artists were all trailblazers in their own right. Zobel and Joya were pioneers of modern and abstract art. Medalla was an avant-garde artist and kinetic art pioneer. Rodriguez Sr. was known as the “Father of Philippine Printmaking.”

Fernando Zobel: Order is Essential opened on May 9 and will run until the 30th of November 2025 at the Wu Guanzhong Gallery and Level 4 Gallery at National Gallery Singapore.

The CCP’s participation in the Zobel exhibition not only serves to showcase Filipino creativity, but also strengthens its collaboration with art institutions across Southeast Asia.
