Friday nights just became more feisty and sparkly! Recently launched, the Watermelon party at Rampa promises to bring all the fun in drag performances to Quezon City. At the start of the weekend, the LGBTQIA+ community and allies alike will all dance the night away while witnessing exceptional performances from the best drag queens in Manila.

Spearheaded by Paulo Castro, one of the pioneers in the queer party scene, this new concept is a colorful display of charm, entertainment, and unity in the community. Watermelon’s launch was fresh and flirty with everyone wearing tropical looks for the almost endless summer party. The segments were hosted hilariously by Salmo Nella and Sexy Wanda Mina. Gay anthems and party beats played loudly to everyone’s enjoyment courtesy of DJ Marky and the iconic Xtina Superstar. A glimpse of the best to come, drag queens Poca, Felicia Ding, Kieffy Nicole, and special guest J Quinn brought the house down with their spectacular performances. One of the most unforgettable performances was Dua Lipa’s “Physical” by Bomba Ding and Katana. It was a strong execution of drama and dance that garnered thunderous applause and cheers from the crowd.

The biggest surprise was yet to come. Everyone had a hunch that a massive pop act might grace the stage. When the intro of summer anthem “Pantropiko” started playing, the crowd grew wild hoping to watch one of the Philippine’s most trending pop act. Instead, the drag queens came out to perform. In the middle of the performance, chaos ensued. BINI finally made their surprise performance that got everyone screaming with excitement. They finished off the performance of “Pantropiko” and followed with their other hit, “Salamin, Salamin”. It was cute and memorable, creating Watermelon’s impactful entry into the scene. Performances from drag queens followed which kept the party momentum at a high.

More themed parties will be expected in the next Friday to come. Watermelon will surely spice up the end of the work week and usher in a lively start to the weekend. More than the festivities, the safe space gives the next queer generations a venue to flourish freely with respect and love.

Watermelon happens every Friday night from 10pm onwards. Follow @watermelondiscoball on Instagram for updates. Rampa is located at 40 Eugenio Lopez Jr. Drive, Diliman, Quezon City.
