With the growing local DJ scene in the Philippines, there are many young musicians who have gained an interest in learning the art form.

ANIMA Art Space, an independent artist-run space, in partnership with The Flying Lugaw and The Jig, launch the first Don’t Tell Nanay, DJ Ako!’  a music production event that aims to nurture musical developments in the Filipino Indie scene—the event focuses on creating interest in DJing and passing down knowledge to the local music community.

Don’t Tell Nanay, DJ Ako! is an event to make DJing more accessible to those interested in learning the practice themselves by providing them with professional mentors who can help them hone their skills even with no prior experience. DTN will also provide an opportunity for these aspiring DJs to perform for a live audience.

In partnership with The Flying Lugaw and The Jig, the event consists of a DJ Workshop and a DJ Party.

The Don’t Tell Nanay, DJ Ako! workshop will be happening this Saturday, June 10, from 2 PM to 5 PM. Led by Jaime San Juan and Aaliyah Reodica, the workshop allows the participants to develop their DJing skills in a more intimate environment with the proper DJ equipment they might not regularly access.

The culminating gig will be a half-day event wherein participants of the workshop will be given the opportunity to play short DJ sets alongside their instructors. On top of the workshop instructors, other professional DJs will be invited to perform as the main acts in the event.

To add on to the festivities of the DJ party happening at ANIMA, ALT FUNC, a new events space located just a floor above ANIMA is holding its first GD⌣HND Makers Market. This also marks the launch of ALT FUNC.

ALT FUNC’s very first GD⌣HND Makers Market is happening on June 17 (Saturday). This market also is a parallel event to a DJ party organized by Don't Tell Nanay taking place on the same day from 3 PM to 12 MN.

The name comes from the term buena mano, which literally translates to good hand. It refers to the first purchase made, thought to bring a successful sale to the merchant for the rest of the day. In a way, it is like a good luck charm given by the very first customer to the vendor via a good first transaction.

Additionally, it also refers to the good hand of the creatives that lovingly made the wares sold in the market.
