Art Jakarta 2024 is set to captivate art enthusiasts and collectors alike as it returns to JIEXPO Kemayoran in the city of Jakarta, a dynamic metropolis with a long history of creative and artistic ventures. Taking place on 4 – 6 October 2024, the Fair will bring together 73 notable galleries from Indonesia, Southeast Asia, and beyond, showcasing the best of their collections while enhancing the overall audience experience.

“We are very pleased with the return of participants with such high enthusiasm, which signifies the exhibitors’ trust in Art Jakarta. In fact, the number of partners presenting this year has increased (4 Lead Partners, 14 Main Partners), meaning that not only is there more support for the artists, but Art Jakarta’s partnerships are also expanding. This is evident, for example, in the AJX program, our collaboration with institutions or private companies with special collections. Last year, we collaborated with one entity, but this year AJX involves three institutions: ISI Denpasar (Bali), Lembaga Pembangunan Seni Visual Negara (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), and Eugene Museum (Bali). This is also the reason we are expanding the space at JIEXPO Kemayoran, from two halls to three (C3 and B3, now also C1). With this, we aim to enhance the overall audience experience with a larger area, more comfortable facilities, and an improved exhibition flow,” says Enin Supriyanto (Artistic Director).

With the support of the Lead Partners – Julius Baer, UOB Indonesia, Bibit and Stockbit, and Treasury – Art Jakarta 2024 is poised to be an unmissable event, highlighting the diverse artistic expressions and creative spirit that represent the regional art scene.

Continuing its long-standing tradition of supporting the arts, Julius Baer is delighted to further deepen its engagement with the arts scene in Indonesia. This year, prominent Indonesian artist Sunaryo, celebrated for his innovative approach to contemporary art, will showcase a special exhibition of his artworks, including several new pieces, at the Julius Baer VIP Lounge. His artworks reflect a deep connection to Indonesian culture and dedication to pushing the boundaries of artistic expression.

UOB Indonesia, known for its longstanding support of the arts in Asia through the UOB Painting of the Year competition, will feature artworks from 12 Indonesian and four international Southeast Asian artists, all past winners of the competition, at the UOB Art Space during Art Jakarta 2024.

Bibit and Stockbit, meanwhile, will present “Knit by Knit,” a collaborative artwork exploring the theme of financial management through a creative lens. Partnering with acclaimed artist Cinanti Astria Johansjah and the innovative collective Rajut Kejut, the presentation delves into the intersection of art and finance, offering a unique perspective on the importance of consistency and financial planning. Through thought-provoking visuals and narratives, it reflects their commitment to empowering individuals on their financial journeys.

Showcasing the winning artwork of the Treasury Art Prize, Treasury will present “Exponential Echoes” by Bandu Darmawan, an interactive art installation embodying the concept that wealth, symbolized by gold, can be a powerful force for good. The true strength of wealth lies in its ability to be shared and given back to nature and humanity. This piece encourages viewers to reflect on how even the smallest acts of kindness can create ripple effects, generating a larger impact.

This year, the Art Jakarta Gallery, the centerpiece of the fair, will captivate visitors with a lineup of 39 national galleries and 34 foreign galleries from countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Russia, and Australia, showcasing an extraordinary range of artistic talent.

With further support from the following Main Partners, Art Jakarta 2024 will also unveil special presentations by artists:

SUPERMUSIC. Presenting “Super Art Box”, an invitation to explore and embark on new adventures, SUPERMUSIC will bring a one-stop dynamic musictainment media that showcases artworks by SUPERMUSIC Superstar Winners, serving as the pulse of inspiration, communication, and expression for musicians and music lovers across Indonesia.
Smeg. Through its collaboration with Dolce & Gabbana, Smeg will present 100 unique designs inspired by Italian stories and culture, called “Frigorifero d’arte” (Refrigerators of Art). These designs were hand-painted by Dolce & Gabbana craftsmen on the SMEG FAB28 refrigerator, transforming it into a work of art and a collector’s item.
Roca. Collaborating with this/PLAY, Roca will exhibit “Naked Tone,” an installation that invites visitors to step into an alternate reality, like closing one’s eyes while immersed in a song. Exploring the “bathroom karaoke” phenomenon, in which moments of personal expression unfold, Roca celebrates the liberating act of singing in the shower.
iForte. Indonesia’s premier telecommunications infrastructure and B2B internet service provider, iForte, collaborates with the talented artist Eldwin Pradipta to create “DataFlesh,” a two-sided interactive projection on a semi-transparent material that reacts visually to audience movement from both sides.
Taco. Artist duo indieguerillas takes up the challenge to play with the letters T, A, C, and O using materials from Taco, the leading provider of interior solutions in Indonesia. Titled “In Collaboratio Veritas,” this installation represents the strength of unity and the pleasure of collaboration.
Blue Label. Together with HONF from Yogyakarta, Blue Label presents “Immaculate Virtue,” a collaboration that emphasizes high standards, global cultural engagement, and inspirational narratives. By blending traditional values with modern innovation, they aim to inspire and engage diverse audiences through a commitment to excellence, ethical practices, and the concepts of purity and the divine. This collaboration demonstrates how Johnnie Walker Blue Label and HONF can achieve something greater together, integrating the luxury and craftsmanship of premium spirits with HONF’s ethical and innovative artistic practices. This powerful synergy resonates with global audiences and fosters a deeper appreciation for both art and tradition.

MINI. Reflecting the spirit of the Next Gen MINI, inventive artist Erwin Windu Pranata aims to bring back fun and excitement through the assemblage art “Ketok Mejik,” which incorporates the Mini J01. By using colorful and reusable everyday objects, the artwork aligns with the value of sustainability while emphasizing the joyfulness intrinsic to Mini Cooper’s character.

Artotel Wanderlust. The hospitality group collaborates with renowned artist Uji “Hahan” Handoko to reinterpret the term “rockstar” outside the music industry through the installation “Pelantang 20-20.000 Hertz.” At Art Jakarta 2024, it is used metaphorically to illustrate extraordinary performance, skills, or behavior in a particular field, serving as a form of appreciation for both the visible and invisible contributions made by creative workers in the art scene.

Vinilon x Stanley. The collaboration between Stanley and Vinilon at Art Jakarta 2024 will feature “Hydrogrid, Hydration,” an installation presented as an elastic yet sturdy structure and integrated as both a seating area and a place where visitors can utilize a refillable water facility, offering comfort after a day of exploring the Fair.

Yayasan RMHC. Yayasan RMHC will present a silent auction for charity featuring artworks by ten celebrated artists: Abenk Alter, Arifin Nief, Darbotz, Diana Puspita Putri, Made Wianta, Muklay, Nue Prastowo, Pande Giri, Richard Schmidt, and Rizal Hasan. An interactive booth, designed to engage the youth through the campaign “Bears for Bricks,” will also be featured in the Fair.

With more exhibitors and partnerships than in its previous edition, the Fair will showcase an impressive range of contemporary artworks across multiple mediums, reflecting current trends and developments in the regional art scenes. In addition to these presentations, visitors will have the opportunity to engage with diverse artistic expressions through the Fair’s signature program outlined below.

AJ SPOT is a platform for special presentations of art installations specifically tailored to the Fair, exhibited in public areas within the fairground. Art Jakarta 2024 proudly presents artworks by talented artists Iwan Yusuf (Nadi Gallery Jakarta), Timoteus Anggawan Kusno (Kohesi Initiatives Yogyakarta), Syaiful Garibaldi (ROH Projects Jakarta), and Tisna Sanjaya (ArtSociates Bandung).

AJX is a collaborative initiative between Art Jakarta and various institutions and private companies to present their collections to a wider audience. This will provide an opportunity for the public to view many artworks for the first time, presented by the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar (Bali), the Malaysia Pavilion (Kuala Lumpur), and Eugene Museum (Eugene Kangawa).

AJ SCENE is a section dedicated to artist collectives, studios, and projects, allowing them to present their merchandise and publications. As one of the most energetic parts of the Fair, SCENE serves as a platform for these entities to gain wider exposure and enhance their presence among the art audience.

Play by UOB Indonesia is a space designed to nurture children’s creativity under the guidance of Ni Nyoman Sani, the 2023 UOB Painting of the Year winner. This year’s Play by UOB Indonesia, titled “We Are All Beautiful,” will offer an interactive and dynamic environment where children can engage with art in playful and imaginative ways.

AJ TALK is a platform for dialogue between experts, observers, artists, collectors, and curators, providing them with an opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge with the audience. This year’s program includes presentations from Hyphen–, Galeri Nasional, Gang Kabel Publisher, IVAA (Indonesian Visual Art Archive), and UOB Indonesia.
