Araneta City is gearing up for a fiesta of Filipino pride! Their week-long program, entitled "We Are Juan," has been running since June 7 and is set to culminate on June 12, 2024, just in time for the country’s Independence Day. The celebration promises a vibrant immersion into all things Filipino—from delectable regional specialties to one-of-a-kind art exhibits and a treasure trove of local products. This event has something for everyone.

Ang Lego ni Juan

One of the stars of the show is the "Obra ni Juan" exhibit at Gateway Mall 1, which offers a unique twist on showcasing a particular Filipino artist’s legacy. This display features the iconic works of National Artist Fernando Amorsolo, known for capturing the idyllic beauty of rural Philippines, reimagined using Lego™ bricks!

The construction of these mosaic artworks was led by Leslie Leshen Araujo, the president and LAN (Lego Ambassador Network) ambassador of PinoyLUG (Lego User Group). Dubbed Project AMORsolo, these recreations have also been shown at Quezon City Hall, Manila City Hall, and even the Manila Hotel.

The array of works showcases a delightful fusion of nostalgia and modern creativity. Witnessing familiar landscapes and vibrant colors translated into Lego™ bricks is a testament to both Amorsolo's enduring influence and the endless creative possibilities of this popular building block system.

The "Obra ni Juan" exhibit is more than just a visual spectacle; it has the potential to spark interest in Philippine art and culture among a wider audience, particularly younger generations.

A Childlike Appeal

This lively approach to artistry resonates with art enthusiasts who are also children at heart, as Lego™ is a cherished part of many childhoods. These beloved toy bricks used to recreate some of the most iconic and cherished pieces of Filipino art paint a unique connection between traditional times and modern times. It's a gentle reminder that our heritage can be appreciated and celebrated in fresh and innovative ways.

Seeing the family-favorite Lego™ bricks transformed into a platform for Filipino artistry creates a bridge between past and present, tradition and innovation.

There’s nothing left to say but head over to Gateway Mall 1 at Araneta City to fully experience the exhibit: "Obra ni Juan." The playful Lego™ reimaginings of Amorsolo's masterpieces celebrate Filipino heritage, showcase artistic innovation, and perfectly remind us that Filipino culture continues to thrive and evolve in exciting new ways.
