Emphasizing the healing power of art and compassion, the Philippine General Hospital celebrates its 118th anniversary with an art exhibition, “A Canvas of Care,” held on August 18 and 19 at Taft Avenue, Manila.
The event was made possible by Dr. Christine Ang Suarez of PGH and Martin Sy of Mbrace Project in collaboration with Fundación Sansó.
The anniversary event was led by Dr. Christine Ang Suarez of PGH and Martin Sy of Mbrace Project, in collaboration with Fundación Sansó.
Fundación Sansó is a non-profit institution that honors Juvenal Sansó, a Spanish-born Filipino painter. The institution preserves and promotes Sansó's art legacy with its mission to foster creativity and philanthropy through grants, initiatives, partnerships, and collaborations.
Through this collaboration, Sansó maintains its mission of healing, inspiring, and uniting the community through the power of art.
"This exhibition is a reminder that caring for patients goes beyond medicine, it's about touching lives in every way possible. We are grateful to the artists and partners who helped us bring healing through art," Dr. Suarez said.
The funds raised by the exhibition will support the PGH Medical Foundation, Inc. (PGHMFI) and Mbrace Project Organization, Inc.
PGHMFI is a vital program of PGH that assists indigent patients with medical needs. It also sustains the hospital's essential services through donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Meanwhile, Mbrace Project Organization is a non-profit organization in the Philippines established in March 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization supports children battling with cancer and other chronic illnesses, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with medical, educational, and psychosocial care and services.
"At Mbrace Project, we believe every child battling cancer or chronic illness deserves not just treatment but joy, hope, and dignity," Sy said.
He emphasized that the exhibition shows how art can be a bridge of compassion, where a story is told through various paintings, and that every contribution could change lives.
"A Canvas of Care" is not just a celebration of PGH's 118th anniversary, but a testament that art can unite, heal, and inspire people in the spirit of care.
