“The simple touch of artistry aroused the thinking that a world is inhabitable by symmetrical creations, with a balance of skillful works of a creator. Man was created with nothing on him, resembling his beginnings like Da Vinci’s. Until, at last, finding a path for a meaningful identity out of a moth searching for light in the deep dark night. Knowing he is not alone, but the whole mankind in search for the Light, is its relevance.”
Ian Jo Semira’s first solo show is a tribute to the great Italian Polymath, Leonardo da Vinci
The Polymoth is inspired by the world’s best-known Polymath, Leonardo Da Vinci. The works of great artists like da Vinci have become an inspiration to Semira ever since he started painting. He studied the old master’s creative process and techniques while incorporating his own artistry by using moths as his branding.
Semira’s knowledge in baroque and contemporary style is also influenced by his previous profession as a graphic artist. He shared that da Vinci’s work is guided by proportions, which he also applied in making digital art. As much as he learned principles in art through graphic designing, he admits to enjoy painting more because he feels more connected with it saying, “First love ko ang painting” (Painting is my first love).
