
FAKE Zine Issue 00: Gangs of Manila Anniversary
Manila-based subculture zine is throwing a five weeks-long online celebration for the first anniversary of its debut issue, Issue 00 “Gangs of Manila”
Every Saturday at 8pm, FAKE zine will be releasing something new on their official Instagram accounts @thefakezine and @thefakezine.shop.
On June 19 (Sat) at 8pm, FAKE is releasing new merch in collaboration with Manila architect and illustrator Alessa. The items will be launched along with a lookbook zine, also illustrated by Alessa. The lookbook features 8 posters depicting a gender-fluid queer who styles the collection in different ways. At 9pm Ena Mori, art pop musician of Offshore Music will be taking over FAKE’s Instagram for an IG Live performance to kick off the festivities.
From June 26 to July 10, a food and beverage-theme FAKE fair 2021 will be held on @thefakezine.shop. Nine merchants from all over the Philippines will be participating for three weeks, every Saturday at 8pm. Each merchant will release a special dish or drink that will only be available until August 10. Throughout the week, the merchants will take over FAKE’s Instagram to do a livecast or IG story. These merchants are Angeles City’s coffee community Kalidad Coffee, Manila pasta enthusiasts Pasbo, Manila buns and noodles joint Po, Manila detroit style pizza and pastry place Easy as a Pie, Piece of Cake, Manila local single-origin coffee brew bar Wideye Coffee, Bacolod craft cocktail go-to The Thirsty Llama, authentic New York bagel shop Booya Bagels, Angeles City’s homemade cookie bakery YO’s Homemade, and Manila’s all-natural homemade vegan-friendly ketchup maker Haynayan Ketchups.
On July 10, Bulacan-based streetwear brand Thank You will be releasing a collaborative t-shirt collection with FAKE and throwing an in-store party at their physical store at Plaridel, Bulacan.
The final leg of celebration (July 17), FAKE zine is throwing a fundraiser art show for Sulong! a youth and volunteer-led non-government organization that offers free psychological and legal help to victim-survivors of sexual violence, in collaboration with mobile gallery Parcel Exhibitions and online art selling platform Cartellino. 11 artists: Sam Domingo, Denver Garza, FAKE zine, Jan Sunday, Maricar Tolentino, Bryan Pollero, Cru Camara, Regina Reyes, Martin Yambao, Bel Weber and Alexandria Mesias will be exhibiting works for a show named Kalón. With the theme “Reclaiming your own narrative,” the show will run at Parcel Exhibitions from July 17 to August 17 and simultaneously on Cartellino from July 17 to August 9. “Kalón” will open at 9pm on @thefakezine with an IG live unboxing and fundraiser how-to guide with all the organizers.
