44th National Artist Jose Joya Awards
“The idea is not to live forever, but to create something that will.” Established in 1976 with the help of the late National Artist Jose T. Joya the Annual Joya Awards is a testament to the legacy of the late National artist Jose T. Joya who was was then the Dean of the UP College of Fine Arts in Diliman. The Jose Joya Awards is a commitment to the proliferation of the Fine Arts and plays a major role in generating art and culture awareness among Cebuano students.. All students get to showcase their works and the winning student-artists receive cash prizes and medals for their achievements. This year marks the 44th anniversary of the prestigious painting competition. The exhibit showcases the various works done by the Fine Arts students and will be highlighted by the awarding of winners in this year’s competition. The Jose Joya Awards has always been a great way to commemorate the National Artist’s Jose T. Joya’s significant contribution to the local and national art scene, as well as serving as an opportunity to the students of the UP Cebu Fine Arts Program to showcase their talents. This event provides a platform for young artists to use art as an avenue to shed light on current issues and to continue the promotion of art making whether it is to inspire, send a message or express emotions. It provides an avenue to nurture the new generation of artists,dreamers,future leaders and hopefully light the way for more generations to come.
