ATHENS, GREECE—In celebration of the annual National Museum and Galleries Month (MGM), the Philippine Embassy in Greece unveils a mural alongside an exhibition show honoring the vibrant and eclectic Philippine Cultural Heritage, following this year’s theme “Embracing Uncertainty: Showcasing Solidarity, Hope, and Recovery”.
Last September 27th, on behalf of the Philippine Embassy in Greece, invited visiting artist Anna Karina Jardin led the art installation, in collaboration with the students of the Philippine School in Greece (PSG) and participating Embassy personnel headed by Ambassador Giovanni Palec and Madame Novelyn Palec.
The mural showcased symbolic representations and iconic scenes that celebrate the rich history, culture, values, traditions, and artistic nature of the Filipino people.
Through the guidance of Jardin, the mural-making event encouraged students and Embassy personnel to tap into their artistic skills and creativity while bonding over common roots and the Philippine arts and culture. The event ended with a program, turning over Certificates of Appreciation for Jardin and the participating students of PSG.
Spearheaded by National Commission on Culture and Arts (NCCA), the National Museum and Galleries Month 2022 is an annual event aimed to emphasize the significance of national consciousness and pride through artistic and cultural appreciation by celebrating the rich and diverse nature of the Philippines’ arts and cultural scene through shared communal experiences.
The exhibition will run for the entire month of October at the Philippine Embassy located in Athens, Greece. The Embassy encourages the international Filipino community to take part in various events this month in celebration of the National Museum and Galleries Month 2022.
In celebration of the Museum and Galleries Month (MGM 2022, with the theme “Embracing Uncertainty: Showcasing Solidarity, Hope, and Recovery” the Embassy is pleased to present a mini-gallery of artwork and mural depicting Philippine culture and heritage by Ms. Anna Karina Jardin, a Filipino artist based in Malaysia who recently visited Greece, in collaboration with the students of the Philippine School in Greece (PSG) and the Embassy personnel and dependents at the outdoor reception area of the Embassy.
The National Museum and Galleries Month (MGM) 2022 is spearheaded by the National Commission on Culture and Arts (NCCA) to underscore the importance of arousing national consciousness and pride in the rich Filipino culture and heritage embodying the aspirations of the nation, expressed in all media of art as well as historical and religious artifacts, and recognizing the importance of the cultural and art forms in national building and shaping national destiny.
In addition, the Department of Foreign Affairs will host a virtual reality tour featuring “PINTO, a 300° Virtual Tour experience” on 12 October, Wednesday at 3:00 PM (Philippine Time), 11:00 AM (Greece time) to be streamed on the DFA Facebook page and Youtube channel which will consist of a short panel discussion, an art workshop, and the launch of a gamified 360° virtual tour. All are welcome to participate.
